Workspace Commercial Furniture Celebrates 115 Years of Australian Manufacturing

Adelaide, South Australia - 2026

Workspace Commercial Furniture is proud to celebrate 115 years of Australian manufacturing, marking a significant milestone for one of the nation's longest-standing commercial furniture makers.

The company's story begins in 1911, when TH Brown Furniture was established in South Australia, laying the foundations for a legacy of craftsmanship, innovation and locally made furniture. Through the mid-20th century, TH Brown became renowned for producing some of Australia's most iconic commercial and institutional furniture designs, many of which remain influential today.

As Australia's workplaces and public environments evolved, so too did the business. Building on the heritage and manufacturing expertise of TH Brown, the company transitioned into what is now Workspace Commercial Furniture, a modern, national brand delivering project-based furniture and joinery solutions across commercial, education, health, hospitality, defence, aged care and living environments.

While the name has evolved, the values have not.

"For 115 years, our business has been grounded in Australian manufacturing," said Tom Clark, Chief Executive Officer.
"From the early days of TH Brown through to Workspace today, we've continued to design and make furniture locally, adapting to new technologies, new sectors and new ways of working, while staying true to quality, durability and purpose-led design."

Today, Workspace designs and manufactures from its certified South Australian facility, supported by a national network of showrooms in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane. With over 150 employees and an end-to-end service model spanning design, manufacturing, custom joinery, freight and installation, Workspace delivers tailored solutions for projects of all sizes across Australia.

The company continues to invest heavily in local manufacturing capability, combining skilled trades with advanced CNC technology, digital design tools and modern production processes. Sustainability also plays a central role, with Workspace holding ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 14006 certifications, and actively progressing circular design and recycling initiatives to reduce environmental impact and extend product life cycles.

Throughout 2026, Workspace will mark its 115-year milestone with a series of celebrations, product launches, industry collaborations and storytelling moments that honour its origins while looking firmly to the future.

Under the banner "Built on Experience | Designed for Tomorrow," Workspace Commercial Furniture continues the legacy that began with TH Brown in 1911, proving that Australian manufacturing, when backed by experience and innovation, remains vital to shaping better spaces for generations to come.
