Devnet to launch local Google Wave services

Announcement posted by Devnet Pty Ltd 01 Jun 2009

Google Wave is a potential game changer in the business collaboration market, according to Australia's largest Google Enterprise Apps partner Devnet, who have announced they have already begun work to integrate it into their unique Cloud Ready program.

The Devnet Cloud Ready program is a world-first initiative that steps customers through the business, cultural and technical issues related to a move to cloud-based computing. Devnet is Australia's first and largest integrator of Google business technologies.

Google Wave is a new collaboration platform that was launched last week by Google.

"A lot of cloud-based solutions have simply taken legacy server-based computer and made it available via the browser," said Devnet managing director Craig Deveson. "Google Wave is visionary - it's an entirely new collaboration platform that unites email, instant messaging, blogs, wikis and other technologies into a single hosted conversation."

"Our recommendation is that organisations running legacy solutions like Microsoft Exchange or Sharepoint, seriously consider the potential impact that Google Wave ! may have before embarking on any significant upgrades of those! technol ogies."

Deveson said that the Wave protocol will allow anyone to become a Wave provider and share Waves with others, opening up enormous opportunity for innovation from all organisations.

"Devnet will aggressively push ahead to develop Wave-based services so that businesses, ISPs and government organisations can take advantage of this great platform and incorporate local and regional features," Deveson said.

Deveson said Devnet's faith in the future of Google Wave stemmed from a number of facts including:

- The attraction of uniting the many disparate electronic communication tools in a single, easy-to-use platform
- The proven track record of the Sydney-based development (Lars Rasmussen) team who helped create Google Maps
- The fact that the technology has been made open source, which will help it attract investment and developer support
- Google's history of providing great APIs for its developer community

"Google Wave is further! evidence that we are still in the very early days of understanding how cloud-based computing is going to change the way to work, communicate and live. Cloud-based computing has already proven itself as a superior computing model based on cost and manageability but the next-generation cloud-computing applications, like Google Wave, will deliver much more powerful collaboration functionality that will force us all to rethink the way we do business."
