Norfolk Islanders raise $30,000 to bring historical register home after 170 years

Something very special is happening on Norfolk Island this weekend: The historic Pitcairn Register Arrives on Norfolk Island After 170 Years

 

  • What: The Pitcairn Island Register is the original record of births, deaths, and marriages from the Bounty mutineers who settled on Pitcairn Island, this very special record dates back to 1790. After more than 170 years in England, the register will be displayed for the first time at the Pier Store Museum on Norfolk Island from this Friday. 
  • Who: A Norfolk Island community driven GoFundMe raised $30,000 to fund its transfer from the Royal Museums Greenwich in London. With support from Qantas, the Royal Museums Greenwich curator Helen Mears will personally bring the register to Norfolk Island on Friday 1 May, just in time for the 170th anniversary of the Pitcairn Islanders' arrival during Bounty Day celebrations in June.
