From Vietnamese farm girl to booming Queensland restaurant empire: the migrant success story filling tables every night

Announcement posted by Invigorate PR 22 May 2026

A powerful connection to family, farming and flavour is driving the success of one of Queensland's fastest growing hospitality brands, with Golden Lor now opening its fifth restaurant at Yamanto Central shopping centre in Ipswich.

The new venue is already bustling, but behind the momentum is a deeply personal mission from founder Ven Pham, to recreate the vibrant, fresh flavours she grew up with on her family's farm in Vietnam, right here in Australia.

"My family has owned farming land in Vietnam for many years," Ven said.

"The flavours I grew up with were incredible, everything was fresh, full of life and grown with care. That is what I am trying to recreate here."

Bringing farm fresh Vietnamese roots to Australian dining

Ven arrived in Australia 15 years ago as a student to study accounting, bringing with her not only ambition, but a lifelong appreciation for fresh produce and traditional cooking.

Now, alongside her partner Will, she has built Golden Lor into a growing brand with locations across Browns Plains, Flagstone, Plainland, Karalee and now Yamanto Central. The new restaurant is located in Yamanto Central's much loved outdoor undercover dining precinct which seats up to 300 people overlooking an interactive children's playground.

The arrival of Golden Lor expands the range of dining venues available at the YUManto dining precinct providing local households with high quality family oriented restaurant and café options.

Ipswich is embracing the new restaurant. Tables are full every night. At the core of every dish is a simple but powerful principle, start with exceptional ingredients.

"I want people to experience the same freshness and flavour I grew up with," Ven said.

"That is why we are so focused on the quality of our produce and how it is prepared."

Fresh produce, every time

Golden Lor operates with a strict commitment to freshness, with all stores receiving a minimum of three deliveries of fresh produce each week.

"Nothing is frozen," Ven said.

"I make it my responsibility to understand where our ingredients come from and ensure they meet our standards."

She said this level of care is essential to achieving authentic flavour.

"You cannot recreate those flavours without fresh ingredients," she said.

"It is the foundation of everything we do."

A dining experience shaped by heritage

Ven's upbringing on her family's farm continues to influence not just the food, but the philosophy behind the business.

"Growing up around farming teaches you to respect food," she said.

"It teaches you patience, quality and consistency, and those values are what guide us as we grow."

Her goal is to create a dining experience that feels both elevated and genuine.

"This is about more than just a meal," Ven said.

"It is about sharing a part of my culture and my story with the community. This is another reason why I am also a chef in addition to my accounting expertise, I want to honour and work with quality fresh produce and be able to deliver it in a commercial setting so others can enjoy it too."

Yamanto Central welcomes a growing success story

The addition of Golden Lor strengthens Yamanto Central's position as a key dining destination in Ipswich, with strong early demand from local customers.

Vicki Leavy, General Manager of JMK Retail, the company that owns and manages the centre among others, said the brand brings something unique to the centre.

"Golden Lor offers a fresh and authentic dining experience that really resonates with our community," Ms Leavy said.

"Ven's passion for quality and her connection to her roots comes through in every aspect of the business."

She said the opening reflects the centre's focus on delivering high quality, experience driven retail and dining.

"We are proud to support a brand that is growing locally while delivering something truly special for our customers," she said.

A flavour driven future

With five locations now operating and strong demand continuing, Golden Lor's growth shows no signs of slowing.

For Ven, however, the focus remains firmly on the plate.

"I want every dish to reflect the flavours I grew up with," she said.

"If we can bring that experience to Australians, then we are doing something right."

As customers continue to fill the new Yamanto Central location, it is clear that Ven Pham's vision, rooted in family, farming and flavour, is resonating far beyond the kitchen.

Ven holds a Bachelor of Biotechnology Engineering from the International University, Vietnam National University, which she completed before moving to Australia to undertake further studies in accounting and English. Following her dream of opening Golden Lor, she also completed all relevant hospitality qualifications to support the business. Ven is an exceptionally driven, resilient and determined woman whose commitment to learning and growth has been central to her journey.
