Announcement posted by Wacom Australia 22 Jun 2009

Sydney, June 22, 2009 – Wacom Australia today confirmed reports of further industry recognition for it’s breakthrough Intuos4 pen tablet system, this time securing a major award from the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) as“Best Digital Accessory”.

Intuos4 was launched a few months ago to a wave of welcome from professional users. It was the first new product launched by Wacom in several years and has been widely praised as a quantum leap in engineering compared to the previous model.

The awards ceremony was staged in the Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg near Cologne, Germany and was voted for at the TIPA general assembly in Budapest, where editors of the 25 member photography magazines from 10 European countries were in attendance.

The ergonomic design and ultra-slim Intuos4 pen tablet is proving a popular ideal creative instrument for working with digital content and Mr. David Spencer, Managing Director of Wacom Australia confirms the Sydney office been air-freighting shipments in to keep up with demand.

“The Intuos4 has really considered workflow in a new light and has incorporated features that have made it an overnight success with users, so we’ve been hard pressed to keep up with demand,” said Mr. Spencer.

Thomas Gerwers, Chairman of the TIPA Board, commented on the Intuos4: “We were really impressed with the advancement of Intuos4 over its predecessor. In particular, new features such as the tip sensor technology and the doubling of pressure levels make it an ideal product for working within photo applications, offering advanced control and precise results. We therefore believe that it is an important tool for the digital market including both enthusiasts and professionals alike.”

The Intuos4 is distinguished from its predecessor by a new reversible, ambidextrous form that puts all of the ExpressKeys in the ideal position for right-handed or left-handed users and the addition of small OLED-displays allow quick and easy checking. The Intuos4 Grip Pen features Wacom’s new proprietary tip sensor technology, offering users near-zero (one gramme) starting pressure for an even more natural feel, as well as delivering 2048 levels of pressure.

Also evident in the new release are significant upgrades to Wacom’s powerful, user-friendly driver software, including the introduction of precision mode and radial menus. In precision mode the mapping of the pen tip changes to a slow motion movement, enabling even more precise and accurate work. Radial menus enable users to quickly access preferred functions through a hierarchical menu display.

TIPA is an independent, non-profit association of European photography and imaging magazines, founded in 1991. Member magazines meet annually to vote for the best products in Europe, taking into account innovation, ergonomics, design, ease of use, efficiency and price/performance ratio.
