Announcement posted by SolarCloud 26 Aug 2026
Australian innovation allows people to own real solar hosted remotely and receive quarterly AU$ credits—without installing panels at home, buying a physical battery or changing energy retailer.
Renters, apartment residents and households with unsuitable roofs can now own solar through Australian cloud-based solar platform SolarCloud.
SolarCloud customers own real solar hosted and maintained on commercial rooftop sites in premium sunlight locations around the world. The electricity generated is converted into cash value and returned to the customer as quarterly AU$ credits.
Credits can reduce an Australian electricity or gas bill or be transferred to a nominated bank account. Customers do not require rooftop panels, a physical battery, a subscription or a particular energy retailer.
"For too long, solar ownership has depended on owning the right property with the right roof," SolarCloud CEO and founder John Kennedy said.
"SolarCloud removes that barrier. You can rent, live in an apartment, move home or change energy retailer and continue owning solar. We moved solar to the cloud—not the ownership or its benefits."
Removing the traditional barriers to solar
SolarCloud provides:
Solar ownership for renters and apartment residents
An alternative for shaded, unsuitable, wrong-facing and heritage roofs
Portable ownership that moves with the customer
Professional hosting, monitoring, maintenance and insurance
No rooftop installation or physical home battery
Compatibility with Australian energy retailers
Quarterly AU$ credits to an energy account or nominated bank account
The model also provides building-level solar ownership for strata communities. Quarterly credits can be transferred to an owners corporation's nominated bank account and help fund approved community expenses, including insurance, cleaning, maintenance, repairs and common-area costs.
For NSW builders and developers, SolarCloud can support BASIX alternative-assessment applications where conventional rooftop solar is unavailable or impractical, subject to the applicable approval process.
SolarCloud operates through an ASIC-regulated managed investment structure. Customers across Australia—including renters and apartment residents—are already receiving quarterly credits through a range of Australian energy retailers.
"Solar should not be restricted to people with money or those fortunate enough to own a solar-friendly roof," Mr Kennedy said.
"Our goal is to make renewable-energy ownership available to Australians wherever they live."
