Trafalgar Fire launches FyrePOWER Fire Rated GPO Wall Box for simpler, more visible electrical fire compliance

Trafalgar Fire has launched FyrePOWER, a fire-rated GPO wall box designed to help electrical contractors protect recessed power points, switches and communications outlets installed in fire-rated walls.

Tested to AS 1530.4-2014, FyrePOWER achieves fire resistance levels (FRLs) of up to -/120/120 in approved applications and is designed for quick and easy installation.

A practical approach to fire-rated penetrations

Unprotected electrical and data outlets can compromise the fire resistance of a fire-rated wall and create a pathway for fire and smoke to spread between compartments, threatening life and property.

For electrical contractors, getting the installation right the first time can help avoid the disruption and cost associated with failed inspections, remediation and project delays.

"FyrePOWER has been designed around the realities of modern installation requirements on site, and has been tested with single and multiple cables in the box, including Cat6 and TPS cable bundles" said Sean Mcdonald, Technical Manager at Trafalgar Fire.

"They are quick and straightforward to install, with some applications not requiring sealant and they maintain acoustic properties of the wall, which is critical in hotels, hospital, aged care and other commercial and residential projects."

Making compliance visible

Many fire-rated GPO boxes on the market have been difficult to identify once installed inside a wall, creating challenges for inspectors, auditors and other professionals responsible for verifying that a compliant fire stopping system has been installed.

"Fire-rated products shouldn't become difficult to identify once they're in the wall. The presence of an intumescent pad in a GPO box does not equal compliance, and I would caution all electricians to verify that what they are installing is compliant", said Sean Mcdonald.

FyrePOWER incorporates identification labelling, including QR codes linking directly to the technical manual, allowing the installed product and its installation requirements to be readily identified during inspections and audits.

"We wanted to make FyrePOWER straightforward for the electrician installing it, but also straightforward for the person who needs to verify it later, avoiding miscommunications, rectification works and delays on the project. By building visible identification into FyrePOWER , we're helping make the compliance process easier from installation through to inspection, and for the life of the system" said Sean McDonald.
