Digi International Enhances Console Management Product Line With Features It Efficiency And Server Uptime
Announcement posted by Digi International 18 Jun 2002
New Alert System Saves Time and Money for Network Managers
Digi International Inc. (Nasdaq: DGII), the leader in Connectware, has announced advanced server management features for its PortServer CM line of console management products, which dramatically improve server uptime and increase IT departments' efficiency. All new features are available to customers immediately as a free Flash ROM update.
The PortServer CM 32 now features a powerful Auto Alert system that instantly notifies network managers of system errors or failures. The customisable system continuously monitors the console ports of servers, routers and other network equipment, detecting predefined messages and automatically generating detailed email alerts. Alerts are sent directly to a network manager's cell phone, pager or PDA for immediate response. Rapid notification of system errors is a key factor in maximising network uptime.
New multi-level menus are customised according to individual users or groups, restricting access to authorised users and simplifying navigation. XML-style script makes for easy menu design and simplifies sharing menus among multiple CM 32s.
PortServer CM's Rapid Install makes installation and configuration a 30-second process, using a web browser and tiny applet to quickly assign network settings.
The PortServer CM 32 has been certified "Solaris Ready" by Sun Microsystems, guaranteeing against unintentional break signals and ensuring compatibility with Sun equipment.
"Secure console management is the most cost-effective way to improve network uptime," said Burk Murray, vice president of marketing for Digi International. "With these new features, the PortServer CM 32 raises the standards for efficiency and ease of use, while maintaining a competitive cost per port. "
Packaged in a slim 1U, 32 port design and featuring SSHv2 security, PortServer CM connects serial ports (such as the management ports found on Sun servers and Cisco routers) to Ethernet networks. PortServer CM allows network managers to securely and efficiently maintain network resources, resulting in improved uptime and lower costs. Network Managers can monitor and control any mix of connected devices from anywhere on the corporate network, using standard TCP/IP connections over Ethernet LANs or dial-up modem connections.
"Digi's focus on consistently improving console management solutions is key to our Connectware strategy, which helps our customers reduce costs and more efficiently manage their business through advanced connectivity solutions," added Joe Dunsmore, president and CEO of Digi International.
