Announcement posted by Polycom 19 Aug 2005

SYDNEY Australia August 9, 2005 - Polycom, Inc. [NASDAQ: PLCM], the worlds leading provider of unified collaborative communications solutions, today announced it has received the prestigious 2005 Market Leadership Award in the Global Video Conferencing Market from analyst firm Frost & Sullivan, as detailed in the World Enterprise Videoconferencing Client Systems report published July 29, 2005.
Polycom was noted for its strong product portfolio, global presence, continued technology innovation and standards work, healthy revenue and unit shipment growth, as well as for its strategic alliances with Alcatel, Avaya, Microsoft, Nortel and others to further video conferencing deployment to the desktop.
Each year, the Frost & Sullivan Market Leadership Award is given to the company that has exhibited market share leadership through the implementation of market strategy. The recipient has displayed excellence in all areas of the market leadership process, including the identification of market challenges, drivers and restraints, as well as strategy development and methods of addressing these market dynamics.
Furthermore, the Award recipient has continually demonstrated solutions for monitoring market changes and for implementing superior market strategies. By utilising these strategies for success, Polycom is recognised as the market share leader in the video conferencing industry.
According to the report: Polycom continues to dominate the global videoconferencing endpoints market, based on its strong product portfolio and presence in all regions of the world. Polycom leads the global market in terms of revenues and unit shipments for both desktop and group videoconferencing systems. Polycoms strength, which is based on its far-reaching brand name recognition, has helped it maintain its leadership position.
Video conferencing technology has come a long way in recent years, and Polycom has been at the forefront, said SV Purushothaman, conferencing and collaboration programme leader with Frost & Sullivan. Polycoms video conferencing systems deliver high-quality, reliable video together with an excellent user experience enabling businesses to improve productivity among geographically dispersed workgroups.
Videos value proposition is more compelling than ever to organisations of all sizes and industries, as video systems and broadband have become affordable. We expect broader adoption both among existing video users, as well as desktop video solutions to go mainstream. Adoption will also increase among new users who realise the competitive value that todays video conferencing systems can bring to their organisations.
According to the World Enterprise Videoconferencing Client Systems from Frost & Sullivan:
Polycom leads the global market with 42.3 percent of the overall market in terms of revenues. This includes both desktop and group videoconferencing revenues. Polycom also leads in the overall market in terms of unit shipments with a 41.1 percent market share.
Polycom has innovated with the introduction of Siren14 technology in its product lines. Polycoms flagship VSX line now provides Siren14 encoding. Siren14 is a super-wideband audio coding standard that has been approved by the International Telecommunications Union. Polycom is offering this standard in royalty-free licensing terms to improve adoption and the end-user experience of videoconferencing. The increased adoption of Siren14 will definitely improve user experience in videoconferencing by reducing listener fatigue.
Polycom continues to improve its already extensive product line that addresses all aspects of the conferencing market. It recently announced three more products to its VSX product line - the VSX 5000, the VSX 7000s, and the VSX 7000e. Moreover, improvements to its VSX software release 8.0 allows Polycom VSX and PVX systems to be registered on Microsoft Live Communications Server 2005 for both point-to-point and multi-point calling. Polycom is also addressing requirements in the High Definition (HD) videoconferencing space by announcing its plans to HD-enable its VSX line of systems by the end of this year.
Enhancements to its product portfolio, innovations like Siren14, and a strong balance sheet have enabled Polycom to retain its position as the market leader for the global videoconferencing endpoints market in 2004. Frost & Sullivan expects Polycom to continue its strategy of innovation and product development to maintain its competitive position in the future. For the above-mentioned reasons, Frost & Sullivan is pleased to recognise Polycom with the 2005 Market Leadership Award in the global videoconferencing endpoints market.
