EMISSIONS TRADING SCHEME TO KICK-OFF ENERGY PRICE RISES

Announcement posted by Make It Cheaper 25 Nov 2009

The proposed Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) from the Rudd Government, and supported by the Coalition could force small businesses energy costs to rise by 20-30%.

At the same time, it's estimated that home owners could see total rises in household bills of $1100, with electricity and gas costs contributing around $420 of the total increases.

Tim Wolfenden, CEO of Make It Cheaper, Australia’s first dedicated price comparison and switching service for small businesses comments: "Whilst consumers could see $420 added to their electricity and gas costs, a small business could see their own energy costs go up by $1500.

"The ETS is there to encourage a reduction in energy usage and use of ‘greener’ energy generation methods, the issue is that small business and home owners are unclear on the real benefits that the ETS will bring to them. Unfortunately the short term impact would seem to be signifiant increases in their energy bills."

Make It Cheaper is here to make an Australian business owner’s electricity and gas bills cheaper, by offering a free and independent comparison and switching service.
