Commercial law firm SR Wallace & Wallace switches from WinScribe to BigHand

BigHand immediately improves firm productivity and employee satisfaction; voice software swap-out pays for itself in months

Sydney (Australia), 8 Dec, 2009 – BigHand, the leading provider of voice technology for the global legal community, has today announced that commercial law firm SR Wallace & Wallace has rolled out BigHand Digital Dictation to all legal and support staff across the organisation. SR Wallace & Wallace is based in Mackay, Queensland, and provides the local community and the surrounding Whitsundays with professional legal advice; it is also one of the largest provincial law firms in the state. The firm replaced a WinScribe Dictation system with the award-winning BigHand solution, and the firm has already seen an increase in productivity and user satisfaction resulting in full return on investment within months of the switch.

Brett Johnson, Managing Partner, SR Wallace & Wallace commented, “We were inspired to review our options for digital dictation when technical issues arose with WinScribe which we were unable to get resolved in a timely fashion. Being based in Mackay means we’re away from major customer service centres, so excellent remote support is essential to us. In addition to this requirement, we were looking to change to a digital dictation system that would improve the ability of our lawyers and support staff to work together with greater ease and less frustration.”

He continued, “BigHand’s user interface is extremely intuitive and its features easy to use, so we’ve seen an immediate increase in employee satisfaction with using this dictation system. This satisfaction with the software is a very important factor for SR Wallace & Wallace because finding and keeping quality staff can be difficult in Mackay.  Technology that is easy to use and efficient to work with assists with retention. BigHand is so easy we can get people up and running in less than a day. Everyone in the firm has already noticed improvements in their productivity since its implementation and our staff tell me it’s much better than WinScribe.”

Voya Adams, Office Manager, SR Wallace & Wallace, added, “Another problem we were experiencing with WinScribe was the regular loss of dictation files which then resulted in wasted hours of searching by our IT team and on occasions the need to re-dictate lost jobs.  BigHand has solved this problem and we have not had a single file or job go missing since the implementation. In addition, because all members of staff – including solicitors – can access, retrieve and reallocate their files at any point in the document lifecycle, I’ve gained back valuable time to attend to my other office manager duties.”

The SR Wallace & Wallace project has been led by BigHand’s local office in Sydney, encompassing sales, implementation and 24/5 follow-the-sun technical support. Globally, BigHand has offices in Sydney, London, Chicago and Toronto with over 900 organisations and 90,000 users as clients.
