Recognised video and communication leader introduces its PCS-XG55 HD visual communication system
Sydney – 19 January 2010 – In response to the high demand for HD video conferencing in the Asia Pacific region, Sony Australia today announced that it is introducing its latest generation HD visual communication system, the PCS-XG55. Aimed at entry level and branch office customers, it meets their needs of cost effectiveness for better video quality and convenience.

Part of the IPELA™ family the PCS-XG55 HD model incorporates key functions and features of Sony’s existing high end PCS-XG80 HD model. This new and additional model provides a video communications platform with connectivity that is flexible for the education, healthcare, government and corporate environment regardless of whether a portable or integrated installation is required.

HD video conferencing is fast becoming a popular form of communication in the APAC region.

According to Frost & Sullivan, APAC is expected to contribute $1.7 billion to the video conferencing market, which is poised to grow into a $4.7 billion dollar industry by 2014 worldwide[1].

Although the video conferencing industry is filled with SD endpoints, Sony expects to see a marked improvement in the HD visual communication system in 2010 with estimated revenues projected to increase by more than four times in CY 2010 from CY 2007. To ride the changing trend, Sony’s PCS-XG55 is designed to be both HD and SD compatible. This enables enterprises to meet their business needs now with an affordable face to face communication solution.

Phil Rothwell, Product Manager for Video Conferencing at Sony Australia said, “The PCS-XG55 is the perfect choice for branch office or entry level HD videoconferencing, especially when combined with the PCS-XG80 HD model. The customer then has a very capable, cost effective HD VC solution that is fully SD compatible.”

Sony IPELA™ PCS-XG55 HD visual communication system will be competitively priced and available for shipping in March 2010 in the Asia Pacific region.
