Company Protects IP that Allows Mobile Users to Immediately Connect to Internet from Any Hotel or “Hot Spot” Around the World

Sydney, AUSTRALIA – 22 January 2010 - Nomadix, Inc. (www.Nomadix.com), the leading provider of network gateway devices, has expanded the enforcement of its patents and has filed another patent infringement lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.  In the suit, Nomadix seeks compensatory damages and a permanent injunction against SolutionInc Technologies Ltd. of Canada for the ongoing and unauthorised use of a number of United States patents obtained by Nomadix that protect fundamental innovations in mobile computing and network access technology.

Nomadix’s intellectual property portfolio includes more than 100 U.S. and foreign patents for foundational inventions in mobile computing and network access, seven of which are involved in the new lawsuit against SolutionInc Technologies Ltd.  Several of the patents involved in the litigation were awarded for networking innovations that allow a visiting mobile computer to access the Internet at hotels, airports, coffee houses, or other public access points, without any reconfiguration of the mobile computer.  Dr. Leonard Kleinrock, Distinguished Professor of Computer Science at UCLA and recipient of the 2008 National Medal of Science, invented this technology along with Dr. Joel Short in the mid-1990s, and together they founded Nomadix based on these and other innovations.

Nomadix’s ongoing enforcement of its patents includes another lawsuit filed two months earlier against Hewlett-Packard Co., Wayport, Inc., iBAHN Corp., Guest-Tek Interactive Entertainment, and LodgeNet Interactive Corp., among others.  “Over the history of Nomadix, considerable resources have been invested in developing and delivering leading-edge network gateway technology.  Nomadix’s innovations have allowed millions of people to travel to any hotel or hot spot around the world and connect seamlessly to the Internet to gain immediate access to the resources they need,” said Charles Reed, CEO of DOCOMO interTouch Pte. Ltd.  DOCOMO interTouch  acquired Nomadix in January 2008.  “The Nomadix proprietary technology is at the heart of the products and solutions we offer.  Our intellectual property is our strategic asset and we cannot allow our competitors to benefit inappropriately from our investments.”
