EMC and BMC software form strategic global software partnership

BMC software to sell EMC's market-leading ControlCenter software; EMC acquires rights to BMC software's PATROL storage manager
Building on a common goal to deliver end-to-end storage management capabilities to enterprise storage customers, EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC), a leader in storage management software, and BMC Software, Inc. (NYSE: BMC), the leader in enterprise management, today announced a global sales, marketing and technology partnership. At the foundation of this partnership, EMC has acquired rights to BMC Software's PATROL Storage Manager software, and BMC Software will resell EMC's ControlCenter family of products as its exclusive storage resource management offering through its MarketZone program.

EMC and BMC Software are committed to providing the highest levels of investment protection for all customers currently using BMC Software's storage management software. EMC's leadership and focus on heterogeneous storage management, high level of investment and reputation for quality service and support will help to provide a smooth transition for all customers currently using PATROL Storage Manager. Both companies intend to tightly integrate the EMC ControlCenter family of open storage management software with BMC Software's PATROL products, providing customers with a comprehensive, end-to-end systems and performance management solution.

In addition to the reseller agreement and the license of PATROL Storage Manager, EMC and BMC Software also agreed to the following:
* EMC will support BMC Software in providing maintenance service and support to all current PATROL Storage Manager customers.
* BMC will be able to offer PATROL Storage Manager customers' equivalent EMC ControlCenter licenses in order to provide a migration or upgrade path from PATROL Storage Manager.
* EMC and BMC Software have established cooperative marketing and technology initiatives.
