F-Secure gains FIPS-140-1 validation from National Institute of Standards and Technology

Announcement posted by Open Systems 22 Jan 2002

F-Secure has obtained FIPS-140-1 validation from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for its anti-virus software - F-Secure SSH Client for Windows, which F-Secure has co-developed with SSH Communications Security Ltd. This is the first SSH implementation based on NISTs FIPS 140 certified cryptographic module.

NIST works with government and industry to establish more secure systems and networks through security assessment tools, techniques, services, and supporting programs for testing, evaluation and validation. Its FIPS certified cryptographic module is a laboratory-based performance test covering 11 areas relating to the design and implementation of a cryptographic module.

F-Secure SSH Client for Windows is a security solution that protects TCP/IP-based terminal connections. It provides multi-platform secure access for Web browsing, email and downloading files. It uses encryption to provide data privacy and integrity to eliminate security risks in data transfer.

F-Secure SSH Client for Windows is distributed in Australia by Canberra-based security distributor, Open Systems Pty Ltd. This validation is corroboration by a third party, proving F-Secures software implementations are of the highest quality which gives local customers further confidence in our products, said Antony Steele, senior systems engineer, Open Systems Pty Ltd, and certified technical engineer of F-Secure products.

F-Secure SSH Client for Windows with FIPS certified functionality will be available by the end of January 2002 in Australia.
