Curves Launches New ‘Eat to Lose Weight’ Program

Holds FREE diet classes (open to non-members as well) across Australia to end perpetual dieting

Sydney, Feb 22, 2010….. Eat to lose weight? It sounds too good to be true, but it’s been confirmed in a groundbreaking study that spells the end of traditional dieting. Curves, the world’s largest fitness franchise, has spearheaded the world’s most extensive and expensive research program on weight management for women, which positively proves that deprivation doesn’t work and the way to keep off kilos is to manage metabolism, not count calories. The findings of the five-year, $6 million study at the Exercise & Sport Nutrition Laboratory at Texas A&M University, show that eating properly all day long, and regular strength training, is the path to permanent weight loss. Now Curves wants to educate Australians by holding free classes open to all women eager to eat their way to better shape.

How does the Curves diet let you eat more food to lose weight, and what makes it unique?

The Curves 3-Phase program eliminates the fatal flaws of typical diets which sees 75% to 95% of dieters regain their weight within three years. After dieting for any period of time with any program, metabolism slows as the body adapts to your lower calorie intake. This results in a 30% loss of valuable metabolism-boosting muscle tissue, and with a lower metabolism, you have a tough time maintaining your weight.

The Curves plan preserves more essential fat-burning lean muscle tissue. Women eat five times a day, and all foods are allowed, with quality protein – which revs up the metabolism for optimal performance. Curves research showed it’s essential to take breaks from dieting to lose weight and keep it off. And, the lowest-calorie phase of any weight loss program should be shorter than typically subscribed. Weight training rounds out the program.

In a move that surprises and delights, the plan kickstarts weight loss for 30 days, then moves to 2,000 - 2,5000 calories a day in Phase 3 as increasing calories increases metabolism. Once women reach their goal weight, they continue the regular eating of Phase 3, without ever putting on more weight.

On average, women on the Curves Plan are losing 3.8 kg in the first 30 days and continue to lose weight without hitting a plateau.

“The secret is not willpower or self-discipline, but rather a proper understanding of how we can change our behaviour, or more specifically, our habits,” says Nadia Rodman ,Senior Dietician for Curves International. “With the Curves 3-phrase approach, you actually eat more food to boost your metabolism and learn to reverse small weight fluctuations should they occur.”

Fast Facts on the 3-Phase Curves Weight Management Plan:

Phase 1 (7 days) and 2 ( 23 days) are weight loss phases that you use for a combined 30 days; Phase 3 is 2 to 4 weeks of metabolic recovery. Burns fat not muscle tissue: With the Curves plan, 95% of weight loss is fat. With conventional plans, 30% of weight lost is muscle tissue. The less muscle tissue you have, the slower your metabolism works. To preserve lean muscle tissue, you need a daily intake of 30% to 45% quality proteinBreaks the diet-gain-diet-gain cycle by revving metabolism: The Curves Plan raises your metabolism through eating and strength training which builds calorie burning muscle. With a higher metabolism, you burn more calories all day long, even when sitting on the couch.

  • Throw out the calorie counter: The Plan suggests simple daily menus (with lots of options) for 3 meals and 2 snacks daily, from all food groups, to eliminate calorie counting. Eating five times daily elevates metabolism and keeps hunger pangs at bay.
  • Delivers permanent results without permanent dieting: Studies show up to 95% of dieters regain the weight lost during a conventional diet within three years. No one can diet forever. Even if you could, it wouldn’t work. An extended period of low calorie intake slows the metabolism which is why dieters plateau. With the Curves plan, when you reach your goal weight you can eat a regular 2,000 to 2,500 calories without regaining weight. No more living on a maintenance diet.
  • Free classes for members and non-members: The Curves plan is detailed over 2 classes within one month. Other monthly free classes are offered on such topics as sleep, osteoporosis ,vitamin D ,healthy fats, eating to lower cholesterol, cancer prevention, diabetes, and mindful eating.

Curves International Movement: Believing each year, millions of women suffer needlessly from preventable disease, Curves has just launched an international movement, Stronger + Together, (www.Curves.com/StrongerTogether) to make one million women healthier in 2010. The program relies on women sharing their success stories and providing confidence and inspiration to others. With over 10,200 locations in 80 countries and more than 4 million female members, Curves is the world's largest fitness franchise. There are 400 Curves clubs in Australia.
