Announcement posted by Yapp Mobile Pty. Ltd. 16 Mar 2010
A large number of Australians travel away from home over the Easter long weekend. This is therefore the ideal time to use turn-by-turn GPS Navigation services.
If you have an iPhone, than you are in luck. A local Australian company have developed and recently launched an application called Mocal. They are offering all iPhone (3G & 3GS) owners in Australia their first 30 days of GPS Navigation free of charge. Customers can also use Mocal to find the cheapest petrol to fill up before their Easter travels [we suggest that you avoid the queues and do this soon].
Mocal is driven through hyper local search and the team are introducing ‘Mocalisation’ to Australia; a process through which they will connect customers, to everything within their vicinity, from their mobile phones.
The key difference between Mocal and the other iPhone GPS navigation applications is that Mocal offers all new customers their first 30 days of turn-by-turn navigation free. After the free GPS navigation trial, customers are offered a variety of purchase options, ranging from a 30 day pass for $9.99 through to the promotional price of $59.99 for a 3 year license (this price is only valid until 30th June 2010) and also includes all future map updates [unlike the competition].
This is a bold step by a local company, as applications such as TomTom, require customers to pay upfront and only then find out whether the service is any good or not.
Mocal’s turn-by-turn GPS navigation feature, offers the same functionality that you would expect from a high-end Satellite Navigation unit; it announces street names, supports 2D & 3D maps, day & night mode, as well as supports both portrait & landscape display. Mocal has been designed around a significant amount of local user feedback and has been specifically designed for the iPhone. The team at Mocal recommend that you purchase an in car cradle before your journey and confirm that Mocal also supports the TomTom car kit that allows for hands free calling and enhances your iPhone’s GPS signal.
At launch, customers will also be able to find relevant local content across a range of content providers, such as TrueLocal, Eatability as well as petrol prices supplied by Motormouth. Users can then click to call, see where the place is on a map as well as get turn-by-turn GPS directions (driving or walking) to the front door. The Mocal team have plans to continually add new content, from the best available local content providers. The best news is that access to this location aware search and the interactive maps feature is always free.
If you have an iPhone 3G or 3GS, take advantage of the 30 Day Free GPS Navigation Trial. Go to the App Store and download and try Mocal now.
