Webspy releases beta version of first Netflow Monitoring solution for windows

Announcement posted by WebSpy 16 Apr 2003

FlowMonitor is an example of WebSpys intention to move towards information monitoring, expanding on internet monitoring to offer reporting and analysis solutions across a broad spectrum of associated applications and devices.
Up to now, our monitoring software has only been able to report on activity across the internet and email, said WebSpy CEO Jack Andrys. With the proliferation of mobile storage devices, such as pocket PCs, however, companies increasingly need to be able to monitor the flow of information across a wide variety of different devices.
Via these devices, users can get fast and easy access to the internet or a companys network with no trace of where the user has been or what they have downloaded, Andrys explained. Not only does this reinforce the requirement for monitoring, but also for a turnkey, single-suite solution that takes monitoring beyond just the internet and email.
WebSpy FlowMonitor has been developed as a tool to capture NetFlow traffic, which is a proprietary output from certain Cisco routers containing vital information on network traffic.
WebSpy FlowMonitor collates NetFlow data from the Cisco routers enabling companies to produce byte-accurate log files to load into WebSpy Analyzer (WebSpys internet analysis and reporting tool). It can be used for a variety of real-time network monitoring applications including network traffic (byte) accounting, user-based network billing, network planning and
network monitoring, thus providing timely information on bandwidth performance.
While infrastructural networking vendor Cisco has produced an application performing a similar function for high-end enterprise clients using Unix and Solaris platforms, WebSpy is the first software developer to develop an application for Windows. WebSpys offering is also priced affordably, at just AU$900, to accommodate both enterprise and small and medium business
needs.
The beta version of WebSpy FlowMonitor 1.0 can be downloaded for a free 30-day evaluation from www.webspy.com.
