MailGuard to conduct research to reveal effects of spam on companies’ bottom line.

Announcement posted by MailGuard 13 Apr 2010

Australian security provider MailGuard plans to offer free research tools to examine whether companies are adequately protecting themselves against unwanted email.

MailGuard, a leading provider of SaaS (Software as a Service) email security has announced a new initiative that allows business executives to conduct automated surveys of their own organization, to identify how well their internal software and infrastructure is protecting the business.

"The purpose of the survey is to help business uncover potential issues with their email, and focus on improving productivity and profitability," says MailGuard Founder and CEO, Craig McDonald.

Industry reports indicate more than 90% of business-related email is unwanted and MailGuard’s own statistics confirm this. As email continues to be the most popular tool for business communication, its volume grows exponentially. With this growth comes the ever-increasing problem of unwanted, unsolicited email. Traditional in-house appliances are known to only stop on average 60% of spam. As a consequence, even with that solution in place, most businesses are still suffering from spam’s unwanted effects.

"Many executives are unaware of how spam email impacts their business. That’s what led us to introduce this free initiative," McDonald says.

"The research provides an opportunity for business executives to gain insight into the real effects of spam. Not by reading about it in an industry report, but based on the physical evidence from within their business," he continues.

Once the automated research is complete, the participating business receives a detailed report highlighting the results, along with recommended actions.

MailGuard's research initiative has been welcomed by the Australian Computer Society.
