Tasco targets consumers seeking simplicity with GE digital camera launch

Announcement posted by Write Away Communication 21 Apr 2010

GE is ramping up its presence in the Australian digital camera market with a complete range of point-and-shoot compacts which fuse advanced technology with simple functionality and exceptional value.

For everyday photographers to picture-taking fanatics and even the style-conscious shutterbug, GE’s 2010 line-up aims to offer something for everyone.

GE cameras are distributed in Australia by Tasco Sales Australia. According to Tasco’s Stewart Pickersgill, General Manager – Digital Camera Sales Division, the new range was conceived following extensive market research into what most consumers want and need from their digital cameras.

“GE found simplicity was ultimately what consumers sought when buying a point-and-shoot camera. They want to take great photos when they are out with their family and friends without the frustration of worrying about camera settings being right or the risk of missing out on capturing the moment,” said Pickersgill.

“With this in mind, the 2010 range was designed to be feature-packed, yet extremely easy to use, offering consumers more value at a remarkable price.”

The GE Smart Series C1033 (10.2 megapixel, RRP $89.95) and C1233 (12.4 megapixel, RRP $99.95) will be the first two GE cameras available to Australian consumers. While offering the same innovative technologies as found in pricier models, the GE Smart Series takes the guesswork out of photography by automating functions such as scene selection and face detection. In stores from late April 2010, both cameras will be available in a choice of black, silver or red.

In June, GE will unveil a major new series which, for the first time, brings timeless style and luxurious detailing to the world of digital cameras. In an exciting collaboration with talented US fashion designer Jason Wu, the man who gained international fame for dressing First Lady Michelle Obama, the ‘Create by Jason Wu’ collection is a line of fashion-forward cameras. More importantly, like all GE cameras, the Create collection focuses on simplicity and effortless picture taking with one-touch operation and industry-best features.

Available in a range of custom metal and leather finishes and beautifully packaged with stylish accessories, it is anticipated ‘Create by Jason Wu’ will attract a healthy female audience.

“According to the PMA Australian Consumer Digital Imaging Survey, women under the age of 30 with a child younger than seven are the most prolific family photo takers. In fact, women of all ages, with or without children, take more photos than their male counterparts,” said Pickersgill.

“While women’s comfort levels with technology are at an all time high and performance is more important than ever, market research shows they still crave simplicity and will steer away from products that seem too complicated. The Jason Wu collaboration and other launches throughout the year should prove an irresistible offering for this important market.”

Tasco plans on releasing the full 2010 range of GE cameras over the next six months. For sales enquiries phone 02 9938 3244 or visit www.tasco.com.au
