Perisher Deploys ComOps for Safety and Environment Management

Announcement posted by ComOps 21 Apr 2010

Sydney, 21 April 2010 – ComOps, a leading Australasian provider of business software products and services, today announced that Perisher Ski Resort, the southern hemisphere's largest ski resort, has selected the ComOps Salvus safety management system software as an important part of its systems-based approach to safety and environmental management.

The Salvus web-based solution includes dashboards for real-time reporting, analysis and management of safety and environmental related events.

Salvus will contribute to Perisher’s safety and environmental regulatory compliance by (amongst other things) providing automated processes to remind people of their pending actions, their risk management responsibilities and their roles in incident investigation.

Perisher boosts its 140 permanent employees during the winter skiing season with a diverse workforce of more than 1,000 seasonal staff, including snowsports instructors, lift operators, snow groomers, resort workers, transport drivers, and food and beverage staff.  In addition to its 47 ski lifts, Perisher also operates the Skitube Alpine Railway, which is highly regulated by specifically prescribed rail safety legislation.

“Perisher selected Salvus following a comprehensive market review and Salvus rated best, displaying all of the attributes that Perisher was looking for, including the ability to provide a one-stop shop for aggregation of information and an automated, scalable safety, environment, incident and corrective actions management platform. Salvus will provide us with an audit trail for managing actions and incidents enabling us to further enhance our safety culture,” said Richard Tuck, General Manager, Systems Compliance and Resort Services, Perisher Blue Pty Ltd.

“Perisher will use Salvus to record information, track actions, analyse incidents and produce detailed web-based dashboard reports for managers to review.  The dashboards will compare performance as well as identify trends and weaknesses all of which will allow managers to better respond to actions needing to be taken to improve safety and environmental management performance.

“We are a leisure facility and to provide our products we operate a range of heavy engineering plant and other highly technical equipment often in harsh climatic conditions.

“Salvus will give us an opportunity to diligently and effectively manage risks by providing real-time reporting of hazards and the actions taken by our staff.  At any point in time we will be able to view, at our fingertips, where relevant responsibilities sit within the escalation protocols which Salvus provides and the status of the actions needing to be taken to finalise matters.

“Salvus will also underpin our objective of sustaining effective action management to deliver continuous improvement. Salvus provides a model for exercising strong governance over our safety and environment management system.  We want to go beyond minimum compliance standards in minimising harm to people, reducing damage to property and to continuously improve safety and environment management outcomes. Salvus will help us achieve these goals,” said Tuck.

Salvus will go live at Perisher by the end of April.
