MAD BASHERS AIM TO RAISE RECORD AMOUNT FOR VARIETY QUEENSLAND

“This is becoming bigger than Ben Hur” were the words uttered by XXXX Gold Variety Bash entrant, Paul Derry, when confronted with some of the exciting ideas put forward by his growing band of volunteer fundraisers when they met at a Sandgate Hotel last Monday night. At the meeting, the second of many to be held over the coming months, suggestions came thick and fast from The MAD Bashers Team on how they could raise money for Variety Queensland – The Childrens Charity - in the lead up to the 21^st Birthday XXXX Variety Bash later this year.

“The opportunities for support and sponsorship are endless”, said Derry, a Sandgate businessman. “Everything from dropping your spare change into one of the collection tins positioned around local businesses, to making an on-line donation via www.everydayhero.com.au/paulderry, right through to major corporates coming on-board with sponsorship at various levels, including the ultimate prestige of funding one of the famous Sunshine Coaches or Liberty Swings.

Paul said that the huge amount of promotion generated by this event was estimated to be around $2.4 Million and he felt sure there were many businesses that would like to share in that level of promotion which includes Newspapers, Magazines, Radio and TV.

The 10-day Port-to-Port Bash, which leaves from Southport on July 29 and meanders its way through several outback Queensland towns before culminating in Port Douglas on Saturday 7 August, is one of Australia’s biggest and most famous charity events. The Bash is neither a rally nor a race, but rather a 200 plus convoy of themed vehicles driven by teams who are just as hell-bent on having fun as they are on raising much needed funds for sick, disabled and disadvantaged children throughout Queensland.

Derry’s team of MAD Bashers are approaching businesses large and small with the aim of cracking last year’s fundraising record of $125,000 by a single team. Sponsors will have the opportunity for fantastic exposure at all levels of media and in many key locations over the 10 days of the Bash.
