Specialised features support hygiene and personal safety needs

Sydney, July 1, 2010 Polycom has released two new wireless handsets in the KIRK 70-Handset Series, which have been designed to meet the specific demands of the healthcare industry. The new KIRK 7020 and 7040 handsets join the 7010 model which was released in May.

The KIRK 70 series of DECT handsets combine hygiene requirements with enhanced responsiveness and personal safety in environments where mobility and communication are vital.

Targeted specifically at the healthcare sector, the safety features of the KIRK 7020 and 7040 handsets are designed to increase efficiency and better patient care. These new handsets mean staff have greater mobility and while remaining within reach when summoned from anywhere within the hospital grounds.

The KIRK 70 series features safety components that can be integrated with third-party applications. When integrated with third-party nurse call or equipment monitoring systems, the alarm button, light diode and easy identifiable alarm icons allow for immediate redirecting of alarms to the correct personnel.

The KIRK 7040 Handset is equipped with additional safety features, including automatic alarms such as man down, no movement and running detector for the protection of staff from violent patients or in other critical situations. For example, staff working at risk in psychiatric care can summon help immediately, and the automatic alarm triggered by either the sensor or the tear-off string alarm secures a fast response.

To avoid the spreading of bacteria, all KIRK 70-Handsets are disinfectant resistant and may be cleaned with disinfectants used in hospitals. The KIRK 7020 and the KIRK 7040 handsets are equipped with a membrane keypad making it even easier to clean the surface.

For ultimate hygiene requirements, telephone calls can be answered automatically via the headset - wired for the KIRK 7020, and wired and Bluetooth-enabled for the KIRK 7040 - without activating any buttons on the handset or on the headset.

The KIRK 7020 and 7040 handsets are ruggedised and IP64 compliant, which means that they are dust-tight and protected against splashing water so that carers can help patients in wet areas without removing the handsets.

Polycom KIRK DECT systems and handsets are distributed exclusively by Wavelink Communications in Australia.
