Five Watpac projects recognised at NSW Australian Institute of Building Awards

Five of Watpac’s construction projects in New South Wales (NSW) received recognition at the Australian Institute of Building (NSW Chapter) Professional Excellence Awards on Friday night (2 July).

The $140 million 8 Central Avenue project (pictured) in Eveleigh, Sydney—now home to Channel 7, Pacific Magazines, and Global Television Services—took out the Excellence in Construction Award in the category of Commercial Construction $100 million-plus.

The Birkenhead Point Shopping Centre redevelopment project at Drummoyne in Sydney won the category of Commercial Construction $10 million–$50 million.

Also recognised was the 8 Australia Avenue project, a commercial office in Sydney Olympic Park developed by Watpac Property, which was awarded a Professional Excellence Award for Commercial Construction $10 million–$50 million.

The $89 million University of New South Wales Student Accommodation Project, which saw the construction of residences totalling over 1,000 beds at the Kensington campus, won the category of Residential Construction $50 million–$100 million.

In addition, the Trio Luxury Apartments project at Camperdown in Sydney took out a High Commendation in the Residential Construction $100 million-plus category.

These awards come after Watpac Construction was recognised at the AIB’s Victorian awards in late June, where the Billanook College Auditorium project won the category of Commercial Construction $1 million–$10 million, and the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School project in South Melbourne received a Certificate of High Commendation in the category of Commercial Construction $10 million–$50 million.

In late May, the Construction team was also successful at the Queensland AIB awards, receiving a Proofessional Excellence in Building Award for the 275 George Street project in the Commercial Construction $100 million-plus category, and High Commendations for the Ingham Hospital and 25 Montpelier Road projects in the Commercial Construction $10 million–$50 million category.
