Aurecon has won the 2010 PACE Zenith Award for their outstanding work as Owner’s Engineer upgrading the Huntly Power Station control system.

Costa Vasili, Aurecon’s Project Delivery Manager, Energy, Asia-Pacific, said: “Aurecon’s work impressed the judges and exemplified process, control and automation engineering excellence in a brownfield project. Aurecon has supported Genesis Energy from 2003 when the project commenced.

“Winning the 2010 PACE Zenith Award was an excellent outcome for us – it is a wonderful public recognition of Aurecon’s leadership, technological excellence, and innovation in engineering projects,” he said.

Aurecon provided a complete range of comprehensive engineering support and project management services to Genesis Energy from the initial concept through to the implementation of the upgrade. Aurecon worked with Siemens for their local instrumentation and electrical experience to design, engineer and commission the four digital control systems for each of the plants original 250MW generation units. The SIMATIC PCS7 from Siemens was used as the basis of the digital control system, which offers the customer a unique scalable architecture combined with a wide variety of additional functions such as alarm management, process safety and asset management.

Aurecon also provided high quality contract management services throughout this project including a respect for the contractual rights and responsibilities of both parties. This assisted Genesis Energy and Siemens (NZ) to maintain focus on the project requirements, programme and issues.
