Canon New Zealand recently sent five lucky individuals on a photographic trip of a lifetime – a three day creative workshop in Queenstown hosted by two of New Zealand’s leading photographers,Jackie Rankenand Mike Langford.

Part of aCanon EOSpromotion, the prize included return flights, luxury accommodation, meals and most importantly the highlight: learning from the best whilst being emersed in photography and surrounded by some of the world’s most stunning scenery.

Rochelle Mora, Brand Manager - Imaging at Canon New Zealand says not only was the trip a phenomenal success but having done the workshop herself it was truly one of the highlights in her time spent behind the lens.

“Jackie and Mike live life through their cameras and it was an amazing experience for the winners to spend time learning from such talented and passionate people. You find yourself very quickly drawn into their world of looking at everything through a viewfinder, developing the ability to see things with composition looking at opportunities, light, colour and detail,” says Mora.

The workshop was structured so that all skill levels were catered for and consisted of technical training each morning before being taken by 4WD on practical excursions to capture the landscapes. The evenings saw presentations of images and critique sessions over dinner and fine wines.

The competition was run to coincide with the purchase of a Canon EOS camera* placing the consumer in the draw for one of the five places. All purchasers also received a Canon EOS Crumpler Bag (RRP $127) and the Lonely Planet’s Guide to Travel Photography book (RRP $44.95).

Glyn Hubbard from Ohakune was one of the five winners sent to the workshop. He classifies himself as an enthusiast photographer having been a member of the local camera club for the past three years and left Queenstown with an even greater devotion and understanding of the art. "We were not only shown how to use our cameras to their full potential but our creative thinking was pushed and challenged," says Hubbard.

“The highlight for me was the integrity both Jackie and Mike have when it comes to photography. They create an emotional link with each image which almost feels like a higher level of thinking; learning how to reflect your own character and personality through photography.”

The team at Canon strive to engage EOS users on many different levels. “Providing opportunities like this workshop fits perfectly with our philosophy of fostering people’s passion of photography as does the World of EOS an online world that exists to inspire photographers,” concludes Mora.
