Retail giant enlists Intranet DASHBOARD to support rapidly expanding retail network

Outdoor clothing and equipment retailer – Kathmandu – streamlines their business from the inside out, and sets the foundations for future efficiencies and cost savings by implementing an intranet. The retail giant selected Intranet DASHBOARD (iD) with the aim of enhancing operational efficiency and getting the business fit for battle on the global stage in the years to come.

With 90 stores and counting throughout Australia and New Zealand, Kathmandu is one of the largest and most recognizable retail chains of its kind. Plans to expand operations meant they needed a way to communicate more effectively with their retail network. With new outlets opening every few months, Kathmandu was on the lookout for ways to better support their stores, including streamlining the management of internal processes and reporting – integral elements of any successful retail business.

Intranet DASHBOARD was selected over competitors including Microsoft SharePoint in a decision CIO Bryan Moore has described as a “no-brainer”. The out of the box nature of iD suited their need for rapid roll-out and minimal development - translating to substantial cost savings initially and a low ongoing overhead for the business.

Connie Pandos, co-founder and director of Intranet DASHBOARD, said customers were increasingly selecting iD as the affordable SharePoint alternative for intranet. “iD is quickly developing a reputation as the turnkey solution for an intranet. iD offers extensive features and functionality - a cost effective alternative when your company can’t entertain a couple of hundred thousand dollars for an intranet.”

Kathmandu previously relied heavily on phone and fax to communicate with stores, causing frustrating and costly inefficiencies. Providing timely information around sales and marketing collateral to stores was proving challenging, and they found themselves restricted in their ability to report on or measure compliance – impeding on productivity.

The intranet has now established itself as the place to go to get things done for their 1000 plus employees. “It has made such a substantial difference both from an operational efficiency point of view and certainly from a cost and service delivery perspective,” said Moore.

ROI was officially recognized within 3 months of implementation. Intangible benefits such as better informed staff and speed of information to market also provided significant value to the business. They received an overwhelmingly positive response from employees, with 60% awarding the system the top rating of ‘fantastic’.

Kathmandu joins the ranks of over 800 organizations worldwide using iD to power their intranet, including Shell, Audi, Panasonic and Jetstar.
