Stage Set For Valley Battle

Announcement posted by Betstar 13 Sep 2010

An early plunge on last year's winner Whobegotyou has set the stage for what promises to be an enthralling three-way battle in tomorrow's Group 2 Dato' Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Betstar's Alan Eskander says one keen supporter of Whobegotyou grabbed the opening price of $3.20 for last year's winner. "We've taken a bet of $30,000 on "Whobe" at that price and wound him into $3 but it wouldn't surprise me to see supporters rally for the other two key runners. The small field and kind draw should play into Typhoon Tracy's hands and if the leaders are winning early there tomorrow, I'd expect her supporters to jump on."

"We've got Shoot Out favourite at the moment and he's done nothing wrong so far this campaign but the other two horses have plenty of "bread and butter" fans who seem to back them in anything they run in so it's going to make for some frantic betting leading up to the race," Eskander said.

Boom sprinter Hay List makes his Melbourne debut in the McEwen Stakes tomorrow and he is a solid favourite at $2.25. "A lot of people have been waiting to see this horse in Melbourne and the Valley should suit him however Reward for Effort's inside draw has made things interesting. If Hay List can't cross Reward for Effort, he may have his work cut out getting past him. It may also set up the race for Catapulted and that may be why we've already seen some support for Mark Kavanagh's horse (in from $5 to $4.60)."

Eskander also expects the Stocks Stakes for the mares to be a spirited betting race. "This is one of the most open races of the day. There's never much between Faint Perfume and Valdemoro, Ghostmilk has been beautifully placed but takes on stronger company here and Robert Smerdon will be hoping Lady Lynette can break his run of outs in Melbourne. We've got Ghostmilk favourite at $4.20 at the moment but we'll let the punters decide. Whichever way they go, they're going to get good value," Eskander said.
