Half-Life COMES To PlayStation2

Announcement posted by Vivendi Universal Interactive Publishing 11 Dec 2001

Sierra Rewards Australian Gamers With A Revamped Version For PlayStation 2
The highly acclaimed Half-Life title proves just how popular it has become, with Sierra releasing a revamped version of the original PC title, only this time to be played on the PlayStation2. Released this month, just in time for Christmas, Half-Life offers an award-winning game experience, blending action, drama, and adventure with stunning technology. Distributed by Vivendi Universal Interactive Publishing, Half-Life will be available at all leading retail outlets at RRP $99.95.

Half-Life for the PlayStation 2 is an all-new experience for the console gamer, featuring new multiplayer cooperative and competitive modes set within the Half-Life universe, as well as a complete next-generation upgrade of the original groundbreaking game. The Texas-based development team used the advanced technology of the PlayStation 2 to give the epic, original game a graphic revamp from the ground up, resulting in characters and models with four-times the detail of the PC original.

"The latest technology has been used to develop Half-Life into an action-packed gaming experience," said Pascal Brochier, managing director, Vivendi Universal Interactive Publishing Australia. "Half-Life has already received international acclaim, and we are excited to re-introduce this thrilling game to the Playstation 2 audience in time for Christmas".

"The Half-Life franchise on the PC has received unprecedented support from both its fans and the press alike, winning well over 50 Game of the Year awards from publications around the world," said Mike Ryder, president at Sierra. "Working with Sony to take full advantage of their technologically advanced next-generation system, I believe we've set the stage for Half-Life for the PlayStation 2 to make another significant impact on the gaming world."

Half-Life combines great storytelling with intense action and advanced technology to create an impressive, frighteningly realistic world where players need to think smart to survive. Gamers are given opportunities to wreak havoc in true action-game fashion, but they are also challenged to explore and strategise. And telling friend from foe is no simple matter when you have humans vs. monsters.

Created by entertainment software company, Valve LLC, Half-Life has sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide. Originally created for the PC, the game has received accolades in Australia, with Australian PC User describing it as a "truly excellent game" (Nov. 01), and was included in PC Powerplay's 'Hall of Fame' for the greatest action game in the world (Aug. 01).
