Sydney, 14 September 2010:Canon Australia today announced thePowerShotG12, a compact camera that delivers powerful, professional performance, perfect for those serious about their photography and an ideal companion for digital SLR users seeking a digital compact camera.

The PowerShot G12 delivers the highest image quality available in a Canon compact camera and improves upon its predecessor with the inclusion of HD Movie. Users will enjoy the added versatility and creativity that High Definition movie recording offers, allowing them to shoot impressive video footage with stereo sound as well as stunning stills.

The 10.0 megapixel high sensitivity CCD sensor, coupled with Canon's DiG!C 4 Image Processor, delivers outstanding image quality and amazing low-light capability while reducing image noise and blurring. Users can easily capture a wider range of scenes in low-light settings and be confident that their images and video will look stunning. Images with a high contrast of bright areas and dark shadows will look sharp and professional.

The PowerShot G12 includes a 2.8-inch vari-angle, high-resolution LCD screen that lets users clearly see their shot. Perfect for shooting at low/high angles or in crowds, the vari-angle screen allows users to easily compose the shot they want.

Featuring a 28mm wide-angle lens and 5x Optical Zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer, the PowerShot G12 can capture more of life's important memories and ensure photos always look crisp and clear. With Hybrid IS the G12 now offers more advanced image stabilisation, reducing shift camera shake (when the camera moves horizontally in relation to the subject) which can occur in close-up photography.

The PowerShot G12 also features High Dynamic Range mode which reduces highlight blowout and loss of details in shadows, by simultaneously capturing three images with different exposures and combining them using in-camera photo editing software. The resulting image is more detailed and representative of what your eye can see.

With RAW recording, users have complete control over their photos, as images are processed with the highest possible quality to ensure stress-free image editing.

The G12 features Canon's TruCapture technology, making it easy for users to get the shot they want. TruCapture combines three Canon proprietary technologies - Optical Image Stabilizer for clear, sharp shots; a DiG!C 4 Image Processor for true-to-life colours; and Intelligent Auto that makes taking photos easy.
