Babcock Signs Up IFS To Support Australian Operation

Announcement posted by Bench PR 28 Sep 2010

Melbourne, September 28th 2010: IFS, the global enterprise applications company, today announced that it has signed a deal with Babcock Pty Ltd, part of Babcock International Group PLC, the engineering support services company.

Babcock Pty Ltd is a leading engineering design, systems integration and support contractor specialising in the provision of engineering design services, systems integration, project management and in-house testing for Australian defence customers.

Operating out of two locations in Australia, Adelaide and Perth, the Babcock team is now updating its integrated business system which will enable further efficiencies by reducing duplication, automating processes and ultimately provide an overall view of how the business is performing at any one time.

“The team was coping with disparate systems to process everything from purchase orders to updating progress reports. We knew that to support and grow the business over the coming years we needed a new integrated system, as part of our on-going investment and development of the business here in Australia. It was clear IFS understood our business and our industry very well and provided an excellent solution for our needs,” said Patrick Donovan, Babcock’s Systems & Equipment Managing Director, whose team is involved in the development.

The first phase of the project is underway with the implementation of IFS Financials, HR, Contract Management, Distribution, Project Management and Service applications. The second phase of the project which will include the implementation of complex MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) and workshop operations modules will start early 2011.

Babcock has been an IFS customer globally for ten years. IFS Applications are currently being used in Babcock operations in the UK, the United States and Canada and the company expects to roll out IFS in other countries over the coming years.

“Risk management is a top priority for companies working in the defence sector, as they need to ensure every ship, submarine, plane or piece of equipment is working as it should, is repaired properly and maintained. IFS’ excellent track record in the defence sector and the understanding we already had of Babcock’s business meant we could respond with a proven solution that was tailored to the needs of the Babcock team here. We are very pleased to be working with Babcock in Australia,” said Rob Stummer, Managing Director, IFS, ANZ.

IFS Customers in Australia and New Zealand include AB Equipment, Dairy Australia, Lufthansa Technik Qantas, Uhde Shedden, Metrix, Hawker Pacific, Visy and Globus Group.

About Babcock Pty Ltd

Babcock established a head office in Adelaide in 1989 (then known as Strachan and Henshaw Australia) to manage the manufacture and supply of weapon discharge equipment for the Collins Class submarine project. Over 70% of this equipment was manufactured in Australia and has performed successfully to date. Babcock has developed significant design and support capabilities since that time, and in addition to providing a comprehensive range of through life support to Collins submarines, has also been successful in winning contracts on the Air Warfare Destroyers for the design and supply of Torpedo Launchers and Magazine Weapon Handling Equipment.

Babcock also sees significant opportunities for further growth inthe Australian maritimesector build and sustainment programme at platform level, utilising reach back to Babcock International Group’s Marine Division. Babcock provides through-life support for the entire UK submarine fleet and around 65% of all major naval surface ships, as well as through-life support and management for Canada’s Victoria class submarines, working closely with its customers in performance-based contracts.

To support its continued expansion, Babcock moved to a purpose built head office within the Techport precinct in September 2009, to add to their modern WA facility based in the Henderson Marne Facility, WA. The team encompasses a mix of staff offering engineering design, programme management, in-service support, and specialist analysis.

Babcock Pty Ltd is part of Babcock International Group PLC – a FTSE 250 company and a leading engineering support services organisation with recorded revenue of 1.9 billion in 2010, an order book in excess of 12 billion, and 27,000 employees worldwide.
