Thomson Reuters Opens Asia-Pacific Hub for Tax & Accounting

Announcement posted by ACN Newswire 29 Sep 2010

Appoints Charlotte Rushton to Drive Regional Growth from New Singapore Office
New York, Sept 29, 2010-(ACN Newswire)-The Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters has announced the formation of its Asia Pacific Income Tax business unit, and in support, has now opened its regional headquarters in Singapore. In addition, Tax & Accounting executive Charlotte Rushton has been named Senior Vice President and Managing Director of the unit, and will be based there. The business will include operating responsibility for the existing Tax & Accounting businesses in Australia and New Zealand, and will focus on expansion into strategic markets across the region, including India, Japan and China. Ms. Rushton will report to Brian Peccarelli, president of the Workflow & Service Solutions unit within Tax & Accounting.

The opening of the Asia-Pacific regional headquarters and the appointment of Ms. Rushton are both in response to the growing importance of the region to multinational corporations (MNCs) as they, themselves, expand globally. The MNCs continued growth and investment in the region are creating a strong demand for products and services that support accurate, efficient and seamless compliance with increasingly complex tax laws in individual countries, and compliance with new accounting rules related to the worldwide acceptance of the International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS). Simultaneously, taxing authorities are increasing their scrutiny of compliance by corporations, creating the need for automated solutions to help companies demonstrate accurate and timely tax compliance.

Ms. Rushton will drive growth strategies for the entire region, and oversee expansion plans for its existing Tax & Accounting business in Australia and New Zealand. Thomson Reuters has emerged as a leader in the Australian software market for corporate tax compliance, through its leading software brands PowerTax, Allume, and N-Able, and has a leading position in the information segment, providing solutions for corporations and accounting firms with Tax & Accounting Online and XYZ Accounting. These products, along with key customer relationships in Australia and New Zealand, will provide a solid foundation for expansion and development across the region, as well as further in-country expansion.

"MNCs and accounting firms in the Asia-Pacific region need to manage the growing complexities associated with new and increasingly sophisticated tax regulations evolving in major economies in the region, such as China, Japan and India," said Mr. Peccarelli. "We are committed to assisting these customers by providing a full suite of tax and accounting software, research, and training solutions, all integrated with the ONESOURCE and Checkpoint global platforms. With Charlotte's strong knowledge of the business, her background in corporate strategy and her experience working within the Asia-Pacific regulatory environment, she is the ideal choice to lead our business."

Ms. Rushton is member of the Tax & Accounting Operating and Executive committees. Prior to her appointment, as global head of the business' consulting and strategy practice, she oversaw strategy and the development of corporate growth plans. She also played an integral role in the company's successful acquisition and business development program, and established entry strategies for new markets.

Before joining Thomson Reuters in 2007, Ms. Rushton was a Partner and leader of the business strategy capability for Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), based in New York. While there, she was responsible for business development and project leadership for business and IT strategy and planning for both Fortune 500 and start-up clients. She holds both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Engineering from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
