ANZACS to Get the Bickies In The Cup!

Betstar's Alan Eskander says this year's international Melbourne Cup runners will go home empty-handed. Betstar has framed a novelty market pitching the ANZACs (Australian and New Zealand trained runners) against the international contingent and the ANZACs are red-hot favourites to keep the 150th Melbourne Cup trophy in the southern hemisphere.

"They keep saying this is one of the strongest international contingents ever but Australian and New Zealand horses filled the top four placings in the Caulfield Cup and that has always been the best guide to the Melbourne Cup. Throw in So You Think and it's hard to see how the internationals can possibly win the race," Eskander said.

"We've got Luca Cumani's Manighar on the third line of Cup betting at $13 on the strength of his good run last Saturday and the only other international runner we're worried about is Dermot Weld's mare Profound Beauty ($21). However, across the board, it's the ANZACs for us and we're happy to lay the internationals at $4.25," said Eskander.

“Wednesday’s Geelong Cup could have a significant effect on the ANZAC vs the REST OF THE WORLD market, with French stayer Americain and Luca Cumani’s Drunken Sailor making the trip down to the City of Dreams. Drunken Sailor must win the Geelong Cup and gain a penalty to get a run in the Melbourne Cup, Cumani almost pulled it off with Bauer in 2008 so if Drunken Sailor salutes in Geelong we will be trimming up the odds of the international contingent,” said Eskander.
