Haymes Paint Presents 2011 Colour Palette

– A Mixture Of Bold and Subtle Shades

Each year the Haymes Paint team unveils a creative colour forecast based on its interpretation of emerging national and international trends. The Haymes 2011 palette is made up of 35 colours in seven key directions as well as the Next Generation collection, which incorporates twelve new Haymes colours.

Developed by Haymes Paint Colour and Concept Manager, Wendy Rennie, the 2011 colour forecast takes into consideration the faster paced trends evident in the fashion and make-up industries combined with the emerging pantone directions in homewares and interiors.

Although Wendy sources information and research from workshops and seminars she brings a fresh perspective to the Haymes colour forecast. A budding artist, Wendy spends a lot of time experimenting with textures, light and colours and uses this experience to develop a unique forecast for Haymes specifically for the Australian market.

She explains that the emphasis of the 2011 colour forecast is a juxtaposition of bold, statement colours such as reds, pinks and greens with subtle neutrals and greys.

“Neutrals are always a vital component in a colour forecast however in 2011 we are seeing the introduction of a mix of more subdued romantic colours. The other key direction is the shift from black to grey in fashion, which we have reflected in our charcoals and smoky purples palette.

We then have some very vibrant colours in shades of pink, red, blue and orange that spark curiosity and energy. Not for the fainthearted but they can really make a statement if used by a courageous, confident decorator,” Wendy said.

The Haymes 2011 Colour Forecast is broken down into the following seven key themes and trends:

Intrigue – a dark, moody palette of strong charcoals (Enigma and Element) and smoky purples and greys (Verbena Violet and Baked Clay) reflecting the shift from black to grey in fashion and the shimmer of subtle purples and lavenders in make-up.

Fusion – a mix of strong, warm earthy colours that fuse together many points of reference within our environment. A uniquely Australian colour, Red Earth, reflects the colour of our landscape, which combines well with the other rich tones represented by Finch, Tobacco Brown, Ginger Boy and Castlegate.

Minimalist – a focus on the theme ‘white on white’, showcasing the range of whites offered in the Haymes colour palette, ranging from the very white Marble Mist to the subtly grey Mushroom.

Bare Essentials – a back-to-basics look at neutrals that can be used as a great back drop for the bolder colours featured in the palette.

Hot Stuff – It’s pink, orange and red – colours that pack a punch and when used creatively can add a unique look to a room. Glorious Raspberry Sorbet and spellbinding Tahitian Sky are sure to entice.

Recollections – An eclectic mix of fun and funky colours that hark back to the memories of childhood delights. The blue of the sea at your annual holiday haunt (Blue Madonna), the pink of the fairy floss at the local show (Emily) or the green reminiscent of a stick ice pop (Yellow Grass).

Nude – A mix of subdued romantic colours that reflect the ‘nude’ sensation being featured on the red carpets of events across the world. A romantic take on the classic neutrals.

The Next Generation

Developed by Wendy Rennie, this is an innovative range that consists of 12 carefully selected colours that are new additions to the Haymes colour palette. Using her experience as an artist and decorator, Wendy has chosen a range of colours that help add value to the existing Haymes palette.

Wendy says, “When painting, the smallest subtlety in colours can create all the difference in finding the balance between light and shade and variance in tonality. The Next Generation palette strives to build on the Haymes colours with the same sensibility.”

The Next Generation range includes:

Smoulder: A deep intense red that is a great colour to add warmth in a bedroom.

Tease: A fun and light hearted red that is a little bit cheeky for a living area or alternatively in a children’s bedroom in an artwork.

Fusion: A soft warm grey great for outdoor render and building the indoor outdoor flow.

Exposure: A dark rich warm grey perfect for exteriors.

Intrigue: When black is the only answer intrigue is the choice to make.

Soul: A calm and warm neutral that is light and cosy. Great for any interior living space big or small.

Soothe: A cool grey white perfect for any light filled home that needs a crisp backdrop, perfect for the open plan home.

Calm: Another warm grey neutral that is light enough for any living space and strong enough to make an impact without overpowering the dcor.

Spatial: Soft and warm with a hint of grey suitable for any living area.

Surface: A gutsy warm deep grey great for creating a sophisticated look in a cinema room or study or even suitable for a master bedroom if lightened with the right accessories.

Allure: Warm, subtle grey that has a strong presence.

Sense: A medium strength warm grey that would work well in a modern bathroom with natural features or in a kitchen area.
