Change Factory’s 2010 HR Priorities Survey Results Released

Announcement posted by Red Letter Management 08 Nov 2010

Retaining and developing talented people were the two main challenges human resources professionals faced this year according to the 2010 HR Priorities Survey by Australian change management consulting company - Change Factory.

The two main HR Priorities for Australian companies are retaining and developing talented people, according to a study conducted by Change Factory.

The 2010 HR Priorities Survey received responses from HR professionals representing 100 companies of various sizes, from different industries and locations around Australia.

Companies emerging from the GFC are changing their focus from survival to expansion.

Attracting new talent, the Baby Boomer Brain Drain and internal system failures present key challenges to HR professionals in the coming year.

In the report released today, it is revealed that companies emerging from the Global Financial Crisis are changing their focus from survival to expansion.

This shift creates a new set of challenges for the coming business year with survey respondents saying they were finding it difficult to recruit the right people.

The survey revealed a HR landscape riddled with challenges and opportunities. The reality and gravity of the pending intergenerational leadership transfer factored heavily in survey responses, as the emergence of the Gen Y generation as full-time leaders grows and Baby Boomers start to swap briefcases for golf bags.

Many respondents also admitted their own systems needed work, saying that performance management and succession planning were poorly understood and inconsistently applied—or in some cases didn’t even exist.

“We invested in the 2010 HR Priorities Survey as a means to gather information from the HR community on the issues and challenges that they were facing,” said Kevin Dwyer, Director of Change Factory.

“But the more we analysed the results, the more we felt that there were various stories in the HR industry that needed to be told; hence the release of this report,” says Dwyer.

“The challenge for the leaders of the HR industry is to create solutions that will take advantage of this period of uncertainty. There are plenty of employees from all generations, who want to work, and the momentum is shifting in their favour, and they will not settle for second best.

“This means that HR professionals need to become increasingly creative in how they attract, retain and grow the best employees, and there’s no doubt that such systems will pay great dividends over time,” says Dwyer.
