MYTH EXPOSED: CARDIO-EXERCISING DOES NOT CAUSE WEIGHT LOSS

Announcement posted by Keneally Consulting 06 Dec 2010

Increasing resistance exercise is the key to lose weight yet visit a gym and the cardio room is full however very few people use the weight room.

“It is surprising how few people realise that cardiovascular exercise is great for fitness but has little effect on weight loss,” said Mr Adam Brown, Director My Life Health.

“The problem is that we are being educated through popular advertising that the best weight loss is through increased heart rate or aerobic training.

Adam Brown goes on to say “However, evidence based research show that weight lifting and resistance training is a far more effective and productive weight loss regime.”

“We find that people don’t like resistance training as they are frightened that they will bulk up.

“The reality is the more toned muscle there is, the higher the metabolic rate, and the faster and easier an individual can burn fat,” Brown said.

Resistance training actually increase the metabolic rate which burns fat faster and more sustainably that aerobic training.

“Healthy weight loss involves developing lean muscle and increasing your metabolic rate.

“What people do not understand is that everyone’s metabolic rate is unique to them,” he said.

“The best way to increase your metabolic rate is exercise. Particularly resistance and strength related training. The more lean muscle you have, the faster your metabolic rate will become, the more body fat you will lose,” Brown stated.

Increasing lean muscle is extremely important for a healthy life. A high protein diet is one of the keys. Protein supplements used in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise can also build your lean muscle.

A calculated metabolic rate formula based on weight is often used to work out your Resting Metabolic Rate however this is not always accurate as each person’s metabolism is unique to them so a simple formula can be misleading and an inaccurate way to calculate metabolic rate. “You can have your RMR assessed in 15 minutes with a Fitmate metabolic device,” said Mr Adam Brown, Director My Life Health.
