Victory on home soil earns Karamalikis AUD$459,000

Last weekend Full Tilt Poker pro Jonathan Karamalikis won the 2010 Asia Pacific Poker Tour - Main Event to claim the first prize of AUD$459.510 (US$452.000).The 22-year-old won the $6.000 buy-in event in Sydney after defeating a field of 289 players.

To win the tournament, Karamalikis battled his way through the competition to face fellow Aussie Ben McLean in heads-up play. As they moved into the second hour of play, Karamalikis turned up the aggression and didn’t look back. On the final hand, McLean went all-in with A-6 and Karamalikis called with pocket fives. His hand held up and the title was his.

Karamalikis came to prominence at the 2010 Aussie Millions, where he won the AUD$ 1,500 No Limit Hold'em Bounty Event collecting AUD$ 122,730. The APPT Main Event win takes his live tournament career winnings past the $1 million mark, placing him 9th on the All-time Australian money list.
