Enterasys Networks X-Pedition 8000 and 8600 wins "Best of Breed" designation from CMP'S InternetWeek

Announcement posted by Enterasys Networks 23 May 2001

Enterasys Networks X-Pedition 8000 and 8600 earned InternetWeek's distinguished "Best of Breed" award based on its impressive performance in a recently concluded Enterprise Infrastructure Test Lab. Systems from Enterasys, Extreme Networks, and Foundry Networks were graded on performance, flexibility, ease of use, management, and meeting the request for proposal (RFP).

The X-Pedition 8000 and 8600 solution from Enterasys garnered an overall grade of A and was described as being "highly mature and stable, with lots of options." In announcing the test results, InternetWeek also said, "Enterasys passed all of our tests overall, and we were impressed with the products and the accompanying management capabilities."

"Enterasys is honoured to receive the Best of Breed Award for our enterprise switch-routing solution," said Ian Fewtrell, Managing Director of Enterasys Networks.

"Our X-Pedition product line - combined with our NetSight network management software platform - form a winning combination. This is further proof that our focus on the enterprise has enabled us to develop technology and solutions that meet the networking needs of today's enterprise customer."

In response to a call for a large enterprise system featuring redundancy, speed, and management capabilities, Enterasys submitted a solution consisting of two X-Pedition 8600 switching routers and two X-Pedition 8000 routers. The NetSight family of network management solutions - NetSight Element Manager, NetSight Switch and Topology Manager, and NetSight Policy Manager - provided comprehensive network management.

"The Enterprise Infrastructure Lab Test was designed to look at the factors that most concern large enterprise network customers. The Enterasys Xpedition products received uniformly high marks in key areas such as Performance, Management and Flexibility, earning them InternetWeek's Best of Breed award," said Curtis Franklin, Managing Editor/Technology at InternetWeek.
