DAT Media has won the three year contract to supply, install and maintain the digital signage network for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) retail shops throughout Australia.

DAT Media, who specialise in digital signage and interactive kiosk solutions for retailers and businesses, responded to a Request for Tender issued by the ABC to provide an in-store solution for their 47 stores around Australia.

DAT Media pitched a unique solution to the ABC in order to provide a custom built system that was easy to use but provided the fundamental functionality of a digital signage network that would promote ABC products and programmes in-store.

After previously using a third party content management system (CMS), DAT Media developed its unique proprietary CMS two years ago, which differentiates the business from other digital signage providers. The system, which connects directly to DAT Media’s network can update content instantly in-store and be tailored to suit the ABC’s in-store requirements.

As part of providing a custom fit audio visual digital signage solution for the ABC, DAT Media developed the functionality to broadcast ABC News within the digital signage display to play at key times throughout the day. An RSS feed was also incorporated within the digital signage displays to provide news at the bottom of the screen in a ticker format.

DAT Media is also looking at working with the ABC to provide a remotely managed in-store audio system which can be incorporated into the new digital signage systems in-store.

DAT Media Managing director Andrew Becker says the company is very proud to have won the contract out of a group of some major industry players.

“We have customised our proprietary content management system (CMS) specifically for ABC Retail and their needs, and feel confident they will enjoy the many benefits of this tool over the years to come.”

Mr Becker says the ABC Retail team have been quite sophisticated in their adoption and understanding of digital signage and the opportunities it presents, which means they are able to discuss the possibilities of new technology offerings for future implementation.

“Adding ABC Retail to our client list, which currently includes BIG W, Dick Smith and Woolworths means our foothold in the retail space continues to grow. We are starting to see the results of plenty of hard work which is pleasing and we look forward to developing a mutually successful partnership with ABC Retail over the coming years,” says Mr Becker.

DAT Media is a Queensland based company which provides specialist audio visual digital signage and interactive kiosk solutions for businesses and retailers. The company, which was established in 2003, is a privately held company servicing the needs of clients Australia wide. For further information please visit www.datmedia.com.au.
