WriteCite.com to present at Global Learn Asia Pacific 2011

The founder of WriteCite.com, Michael Hargreaves, is to speak at Global Learn Asia Pacific 2011 conference. The conference, organised by the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE) will be held in Melbourne from March 28 to April 1.

WriteCite.com is an online application that formats reference sources in the major accepted academic styles of APA, Harvard, and MLA. WriteCite.com is purposefully intuitive and easier to use than desktop equivalents and is primarily intended for use by late-secondary and post-secondary coursework students. WriteCite.com is distinguished from the more complex desktop software used by researchers in that it also teaches students how to reference.

Hargreaves, who is also a sessional lecturer at Queensland University of Technology in Australia, will speak on the topic of innovation in e-learning and his experiences from WriteCite.com’s inception to today. Similar to his own experience, Hargreaves expects that there are many educators with pedagogical knowledge that can be adapted as learning instruments on the internet. Hargreaves’ presentation is focused on the development process from non-technical and non-pedagogical perspectives and is directed at educators with interest in embodying their expertise into an online website or application.

In his presentation, Hargreaves also identifies why competition and adoption of e-learning applications are concentrated in the US and will explain the challenges faced by developers of e-learning applications outside of the US. The findings of informal research conducted by Hargreaves are supported by traditional economic theories and contrasts with neo-competition theories asserting that the global ubiquity of internet has changed international development and adoption paths for new technologies.
