Announcement posted by Alcatel-Lucent 24 Sep 2002

Alcatel 7670 Routing Switch Platform gives flexibility and scalability
Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today announced that it has signed an agreement with Optus to supply the Alcatel 7670 Routing Switch Platform for the Australian carriers core network. The Alcatel 7670 RSP is a multiprotocol core platform, allowing different networking protocols like IP, MPLS and ATM to work together on the one centrally managed network.

Optus will use the Alcatel 7670 RSP in the tandem layer of a new hierarchical structure for its nationwide ATM packet data network. The Alcatel 7670 RSP, managed by the Alcatel 5620 Network Manager, will enable Optus to reduce cost, increase efficiency and improve customer performance.

This agreement will enable Optus to expand the capabilities of its modern network and deliver improved performance to our customers, said Dr Stephen Rotheram, Managing Director of Optus Networks.

Ross Fowler, CEO of Alcatel Australia said, The solution that we have provided to Optus not only takes into account its current network requirements but also future requirements, particularly as we are on the edge of a broadband explosion. The Alcatel 7670 RSP will offer improved performance, whilst significantly reducing a number of costs. A great solution whichever way you look at it.
