Brumbies Rugby Maximises Team Performance with CA Clarity PPM from CA Technologies

Announcement posted by CA Technologies 06 Apr 2011

Sydney, 6 April 2011 – CA Technologies (NASDAQ:CA) has today announced that it has supplied its market-leading CA Clarity Project and Portfolio Management solution to long-term sponsorship partner, Brumbies Rugby.

CA Clarity PPM has been implemented to spearhead a three-year research analysis program to more effectively monitor team performance. CA Clarity PPM allows Brumbies Rugby to upload historical data as well as to process new data collected by coaching and medical staff during the Super15 rugby season. Once uploaded into CA Clarity PPM, Brumbies Rugby coaching staff can analyse player performance and recovery through in-built dashboards and reports.  The CA Clarity PPM solution is hosted in the cloud to allow coaching staff to access the data from anywhere in the world, whether they be in Canberra or Cape Town.

“Globally, CA Clarity PPM is undoubtedly one of the leading PPM solutions in the market and has traditionally been used by organisations to help with business project planning and management. This is the first time it has been used for sports performance analysis, which shows just how versatile this enterprise solution can be. It’s very exciting to evolve our close partnership with Brumbies Rugby but also very impressive to demonstrate the flexibility of CA Clarity PPM ,” said Brenton Smith, Vice President and General Manager, Australia & New Zealand.

CA Labs – the research division of CA Technologies – is working closely with the Faculty of Information Sciences and Engineering and the National Institute of Sports Studies at the University of Canberra to analyse the data collected by Brumbies Rugby. Over the next three years, University of Canberra PhD students, who are being sponsored by CA Technologies, will use the research outcomes to improve player performance management.

Andrew Fagan, CEO, Brumbies Rugby, believes that through the long-standing partnership with CA Technologies, the opportunity to provide more effective player measurement was easily identified.

“The partnership that we have with CA Technologies has allowed us to be amongst the first to use a Project and Portfolio Management solution to literally keep us ahead of the game. CA’s engagement with the University of Canberra has been extremely successful and we have found that the solution  has been very supportive in helping achieve our goals. By improving the management of our disparate data, we are now better positioned to make key decisions regarding individual player training and playing loads, injury management and recovery profiles.  In the future we may even use the information solution to assist in at-game decisions such as team combinations, substitution timings, and momentum switches” said Fagan.

CA Labs will continue its work in association with the University of Canberra to analyse CA Clarity PPM reports and provide valuable advice and support to Brumbies management. The research aims to analyse new counter-instinctive indicators for coaching staff to fine-tuned performance, both on the field and in training.

In addition to internal team data analysis, research extends to discovering important variables which can predict major shifts in player states or the overall team. Examples of this can include injuries, peaks in player form and team form and momentum switches within the game.
