The Choux Fits for Punter

Announcement posted by Betstar 08 Apr 2011

Star New Zealand three-year-old Jimmy Choux is a rock-solid $2.05 favourite to add to his "picket fence" of wins in tomorrow's Group 1 AJC Australian Derby at Randwick. Betstar's Alan Eskander says the horse can handle all types of going and his only worry will be whether he gets cluttered up on the rail from his no.1 barrier.

"If Jonathan Riddell can just make sure he gets a clear run from there, he should be too good for them and we won't be taking any risks with him. We're already holding a payout of $94,000 to one punter who took Sepoy into him in a Slipper-Derby double, and he's also the first leg of a lot of doubles into the AJC Oaks, the Doncaster and the Sydney Cup," Eskander said.

"The best backed to beat him has been Shamrocker. She's been $8 into $6.50 and that includes one bet of $8,000 each way at $7 however it's a big ask for a filly against the boys and she'll need every bit of Glen Boss's Group 1 magic to reverse the Rosehill Guineas result, " said Eskander.
However the main focus tomorrow won't be on the Derby as world champ Black Caviar steals the racing spotlight. Eskander said today she hadn't budged from her $1.20 to make it 12 in a row in the Group 1 T.J.Smith Stakes. "We can't lay any other runner which I guess isn't surprising. Many punters will be happy just to watch her go around but it wouldn't surprise me if some of the bigger punters stepped in closer to race time. After all, you don't get a 20 per cent interest rate on your money every day," Eskander added.

Big fields are the order of the day at Randwick and Eskander expects some fast and furious action on what looks to be one of the race days of the year.
