New gift-giving etiquette has happiness wrapped up and eliminates consumer waste

Announcement posted by PR Guru 16 Apr 2011

Giving presents in the digital age has just been made easier with a new online wish-list site called WippyGift.com which takes out the guessing game of what to give.

Gift registries have been the norm for weddings, engagements and christenings for years, but they aren’t limited to major celebrations anymore.

Director of WippyGift.com, Paula Uscanga says asking someone what they’d like for their birthday, is no longer taboo and now there’s a fun way to do it.

“Some people might feel uncomfortable being asked directly – but sending them an anonymous online wish-list request is much less confrontational. In fact, done discretely, it can add excitement to the gift giving experience,” says Paula.

“And, when it comes to generation Y, they expect to be asked. And because they are already so connected with technology, getting an online wish-list request is just so easy,” she says.

According to a recent e-Bay survey, Australians received $500 million of unwanted gifts last Christmas alone.

“It’s such a waste. We’ve all received presents we didn’t know what to do with. Instead of taking the embarrassing option of re-gifting and being caught out – why not find out what the person actually wants?” she says.

According to Paula, it’s all about bringing the fun and pleasure back into gift giving with a practical solution.

“Sadly, for some people, gift-giving has become a stressful event. There are so many present options and people are so busy, that taking time out to find the perfect gift for a loved one can be difficult to do.

“I wanted to help make gift giving fun again and stop people wasting their time and money on purchasing impractical and unwanted items.

“Some people turn to Gift Cards as an easy option, but these can also be a waste of money as around 10% are never redeemed. Some in fact are on-sold for 60% less than their actual value. So unless you know that someone wants a specific gift-card, it mightn’t be the best option,” she says.

Paula says getting it right is simple.

“Before buying a gift it is important to think about who it’s for. People have different values, hobbies, interests and desires and while one person might see a material gift as important, others may prefer a unique experience – depending on what type of gift personality they have and relationship you have with them,” says Paula.

The idea of WippyGift is to help people find the perfect gift for someone they care about in a novel, unique and fun way. It’s a discreet, efficient and exciting way of finding out what someone wants – with a personal and individual touch.
