Uniden goes walkie talkie on the new 77-channel UHF-CB network

Announcement posted by Uniden Australia 23 May 2011

Following its introduction of Australia’s first 77 channel-ready UHF-CB radios, Uniden has today launched a series of handheld radios compatible with the new narrowband network.

The Australian Government will soon restructure the UHF-CB radio network, adding 37 new channels to the existing 40 channel network. The existing 40 channels will continue to operate at their current frequencies, but the width of each channel will be reduced from 25kHz (Wideband) width to 12.5kHz (Narrowband) width to allow for the additional channels*.

Initially introducing six new handheld models into the 77 Channel-Ready Radio Series, Uniden UHF CB users can access the extra channels as soon as the upgraded network is rolled out. The changeover is simple and can be completed by radio users at home. Importantly, Uniden’s handheld radios remain compatible with the current 40 channel radios, allowing for trouble-free communication between newer and existing radios. With more channels to choose from there will be less network congestion, allowing for faster and easier selection of a clear channel.

According to Brad Hales, Senior National Marketing Executive, Uniden Australia, the launch of the handheld series will extend the benefits of the new UHF-CB network to other groups of radio users.

“Traditionally, when we think of UHF-CB radio users we identify motorists of 4WDs and trucks, but there are many other applications. Each of our new 77-channel ready handheld radios is suited to particular groups of radio users. For example farmers, tradesmen and construction workers will appreciate the durability of our more heavy-duty radios such as the 5 Watt UH076SX, while hikers, hospitality staff and event workers are looking for a more compact lightweight option such as the 2 Watt UH720SX.”

Built specifically for Australian and New Zealand conditions, Uniden handheld radios have been tested to withstand the hottest summer temperatures and are shock resistant for high performance across rugged terrain. All models include backlit LCD and keypad, five calling tones, roger beep, as well as Group Scan and Open Scan functions.
