NetComm in partnership with Mobily - launch world's first 42Mbps Router in Saudi

Announcement posted by NetComm Wireless 27 May 2011

Friday, May 27 2011 (Sydney):NetComm Limited (ASX: NTC) in partnership with Mobily, the fastest growing mobile operator in the Middle East and North Africa, is gearing up for the launch of the NetComm DC-HSPA+ 42Mbps WiFi Router. This marks a carrier world first launch of a 42Mbps router for Mobily. Millions of home users across Saudi Arabia will have access to fast broadband speeds that will exceed speeds of a fixed line connection. Communities beyond the reach of fixed-line infrastructure will also be able to create a network for multiple wireless Internet devices on Mobily's HSPA+ network.

The GSM Association has confirmed that Mobily currently has the world's busiest mobile data network and according to forecasts by Informa, by the end of 2013 there will be 44.13 million HSPA subscribers in the Middle East as compared with 12.77 million fixed-line broadband subscriptions.  Mobily's launch of the NetComm DC-HSPA+ 42Mbps WiFi Router will transform the lives of Internet users in remote areas across the Middle Eastern and North African region by providing high-speed access to large volumes of data, emails, Internet and business applications without the need for an ADSL or cable connection.

With downstream data rates of up to 42Mbps & 5.76Mbps upstream users can connect multiple devices including PC's, laptops, smart phones and tablet computers to watch movies, download music or access e-mail from virtually any location on a single data account.

"Mobily completed their HSPA+ network in November 2009 and at the same time NetComm was prepared to deliver the technology needed to make the most of their advanced network capabilities. The launch of the 42Mbps WiFi Router will change the face of mobile broadband in the Middle East and we are pleased to be part of this important milestone," said NetComm's Managing Director, David Stewart.

"Since winning Saudi Arabia's second GSM licence in 2004, Mobily has revolutionised mobile telecommunications services across the region. We successfully shifted mobile data consumption from kilobytes to megabytes in the mind of our consumers and the launch of the world's first 42Mbps on our new HSPA+ network marks another major turning point for the Kingdom's consumers. HSPA is rapidly overtaking the fixed-line in Saudi Arabia to bring high-speed Internet to all regions," said Mobily CEO and Managing Director, Khaled Al-Kaf.
