Austech 2011 a great success for DMG/Mori Seiki Australia

Melbourne, 31 May 2011 – Austech will be remembered as the show with a strong attendance generating huge numbers of sales leads and purchase agreements. Austech organiser AMTIL reports that Austech and National Manufacturing Week (NMW) attracted a total of around 12,000 visitors from 24 to 27 May 2011. This represents growth of 10 to 15% over the comparable 2009 event. Almost all of the exhibitors were pleased with the results of the show, which surely reflects the strong economic recovery in the major industrial markets around the globe.

For DMG/Mori Seiki Australia, Austech proved to be very successful this year with more than 10 machines sold over the four days of the show. At the DMG/Mori Seiki stand over 1000 trade visitors sought information on trend-setting technologies as well as on industry-focused solutions for the aerospace, automotive, medical and mining sectors.

German machine tool builder GILDEMEISTER AG commenced joint sales and services with the Japanese machine tool manufacturer Mori Seiki Co Ltd in Australia on 1 March 2010. The joint company DMG/Mori Seiki Australia plans to increase its market share in Australia and New Zealand to more than 50% in the next one or two years, explained Dr. Jens Hardenacke, CEO - Cooperation Markets at DMG/Mori Seiki.

“We plan to grow stronger than our competitors and to become the market leader in the Australian and NZ market, if not this year then latest next year and we want to manifest our position here. In terms of growth, we plan a 2-digit growth in sales within the next three years,” Mr Hardenacke said. “In the Asia-Pacific region we experienced a 50% growth per year over the past two years, and we plan to grow our business by more than 50% again this year. Although Europe is performing extremely well, we see greater potential in the Asia-Pacific region.”

The array of machine tools presented by DMG/Mori Seiki was one of the eye-opening exhibits at this year’s Austech exhibition in Melbourne. The 6 DMG and Mori Seiki machines on display ranged from milling centres and turn/mills to multi-axis machining centres in horizontal, vertical and universal configurations.

The newly developed DMU 65 monoBLOCK, offering the entry into the high-tech world of simultaneous 5-axis machining, generated a lot of interest among visitors and was sold off the stand. Previously, the complexity and expense of 5-axis machine tools limited their application to only the most sophisticated and well-funded factories. Today, though, the versatile machines are finding use in shops of nearly every size and description, and advancing technology continually improves their performance.

“We see huge growth potential for our 5-axis high-end machine tools in Australia,” said Mr Hardenacke. “We exhibited the DMU 65 monoBLOCK and Mori Seiki’s X-Class series during this year’s Austech, offering a high-end machine at a better price compared to its predecessors. But we also see potential for entry-level machines, our ECOLINE. We can now attack the market from two sides, the lower-end and high-end.”

The design of the economy version of the DMG turning and milling machines is based on the idea of delivering proven DMG quality at the best possible price by combining consistent standardisation, simple and reliable construction methods and state-of-the-art 3D control technology. While the universal turning machines in the CTX eco series have already become the international top sellers at DMG, the latest winning model in the ECOLINE world is the new CNC universal milling machine DMU 50 eco, which was also exhibited at this year’s Austech exhibition.

Mori Seiki’s recently launched NTX2000 high-precision, high-efficiency integrated mill/turn centre also proved to be a crowd puller, as well as the NLX2500, the first model to be released from the new X-Class series – a CNC lathe packed with extensive features including high rigidity, measures against thermal displacement, energy saving, space saving, MAPPS IV + ESPRIT, and compliance with safety standards.
