D-Link Ships 5-Bay High-Speed Network Storage Solution For Small To Medium Organisations

Announcement posted by D-Link Australia 15 Jun 2011

SYDNEY, Aust. -- June 15, 2011 -- D-Link Australia & New Zealand, the end-to-end networking solutions provider for business and consumers, today introduced the D-Link DNS-1200-05 ShareCenter Pro 5-bay network attached storage (NAS) solution to meet the ever-increasing need for data consolidation and information sharing faced by small to medium organisations.

The D-Link DNS-1200-05 ShareCenter Pro offers high speed network connectivity via two Gigabit Ethernet ports and iSCSI Internet Protocol (IP) storage support for fast data transfer. It also provides a multitude of options for easily managing and securing important files. The highest levels of RAID protection, remote backup support, S.M.A.R.T. disk diagnostics and many security features provide extra data protection.

"D-Link's new ShareCenter Pro offers high levels of storage performance, expandability, security and backup to small to medium organisations," said Maurice Famularo, Marketing Director, D-Link Australia & New Zealand. "This makes it an ideal solution for consolidating data onto a central easy-to-manage NAS device or pool to drive down the cost of managing data storage."

With five SATA disk drive bays supporting 3 TB hard drives each, the DNS-1200-05 can accommodate up to 15 TB of storage. The ShareCenter Pro solution is further expandable with iSCSI stacking of up to eight NAS devices, offering a total combined NAS pool of up to 120 TB. iSCSI also offers exceptionally fast access performance thanks to block-level data transfer.

Operations such as configuration, provisioning and backup can be handled in the same way as directly attached storage, with iSCSI targets appearing as a local drive on a client PC. By utilising existing Ethernet connections, the cost associated with separate directly attached host bus adapters is significantly reduced -- helping to drive down the per-Gigabyte cost of storage.

The DNS-1200-05 offers several backup options which allow administrators and users to control how, when and where their data is stored. Organisations can share files across the network or over the Internet via File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or access them via an easy-to-use web file manager. A PC client gives users a straightforward means of copying their data to the NAS server.

Account management features include the ability to create and manage users, groups, iSCSI targets and Read/Write permissions with password authentication. Additionally, Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) tag support combined with AES data encryption can be utilised to keep files secure. iSCSI implements a Challenge-Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP) to enforce security of access to the storage system.

The DNS-1200-05 operates in a variety of drive configurations including RAID level 0, 1, 5, 5+Spare, 6 or JBOD to offer customers flexibility when configuring their data safeguard strategy. With RAID technology, users can mirror (i.e. duplicate data on multiple drives) and/or stripe (i.e. share data across multiple drives) between disk drives, ensuring maximum protection of data. If one drive fails, the others function normally until the failed drive is replaced. Additionally, S.M.A.R.T. disk diagnostics help to ensure data integrity.

The ShareCenter's USB connectivity provides the option to establish a printer server, monitor a UPS, or connect USB devices such as external hard drives and flash storage. D-Link's Green Ethernet technology also provides significant energy savings by reducing power according to cable length or cutting power to unused ports.

The DNS-1200-05 ShareCenter Pro comes with a two year warranty including 24-hour advanced warranty replacement.
