Registrations open for Desert Knowledge Symposium

Announcement posted by Desert Knowledge Australia 11 Aug 2011

Registrations are now open for the 4th Desert Knowledge Symposium and Business Showcase to be held in Alice Springs from 7 – 11 November 2011.

The overall Symposium theme of Desert Australia: The National Interest and Global Context will be explored through four critical and inter-related themes:
Energy Futures and Climate Change
Governance and Capacity
Settlements: Patterns, services and viability
Enterprise and Livelihoods

John Huigen, Chair 4th Desert Knowledge Symposium and Business Showcase said “This Symposium is about exploring the issues and opportunities that affect desert and remote Australia.”

“We’re looking for people that want to shape the future, join the conversation, share their ideas and take action. We’re bringing Aboriginal and other Australians together, to forge an intercultural approach and find new ways to address what is happening in desert Australia”.

The first two days of the program includes concurrent half day sessions dedicated to the four themes. The format of the third day is an open conference discussion to connect the topics, people and sectors, explore the underlying drivers and generate new approaches to tackling them. The open conference will be facilitated by internationally renowned facilitators Myrna Lewis and Pam Venables.

The Business Exchange, running concurrently over the three days, will be a dynamic business engagement and development opportunity.

The 4th Desert Knowledge Symposium and Business Showcase is presented by Batchelor Institute for Indigenous Tertiary Education, Centre for Appropriate Technology, CSIRO, Desert Knowledge Australia and the Desert Peoples Centre.
