eBay all a-Twitter with launch of The Shane Warne Foundation Celebrity Auction

Announcement posted by Spark Communications 24 Aug 2011

21 items from celebrities around the world up for sale

It was a single Tweet for assistance by Warne in May that had his bevy of famous friends clamouring to put items up on the Ebay auction block in the name of his self-established charity, The Shane Warne Foundation (TSWF).

Withnames such as Russell Crowe, Elton John and Australia’s favourite presenter Karl Stefanovic on board, the 22-long list of highly desirable memorabilia and experiences looks like it will bring in a big haul for the umbrella not-for-profit when the auction takes place from 22nd – 29th August 2011 on eBay.com.au.

“We’ve been blown away by the number of people putting their hand up to get involved in this initiative” says Warne. “It’s really exciting how the concept has taken off; the auction items that have been donated are quite unique and some really are priceless.”

One of the auction’s hottest properties is an arrow shot by Russell Crowe while making Sir Ridley Scott’s 2010 hit ‘Robin Hood’. “As a patron of TSWF I encourage everyone to get behind such a great cause” said Crowe, who has been involved with the foundation since its inception.

TSWF works to enrich the lives of seriously ill and underprivileged children in Australia.
An umbrella organisation, they accept submissions from established charities that work ‘hands on’ within their demographic and fund shortfalls on programs and equipment.

Since launching in 2004, TSWF
has raised over $5 million and helped more than 90 different children’s charities and individuals, with the proceeds from the Celebrity Auction expected to make an important contribution to the coming year’s activities.

Waiving all costs of hosting the auction, eBay Australia is also providing significant support for the campaign in the form of advertising.

“We’re delighted to be working with The Shane Warne Foundation on this exciting project” says eBay Australia spokesperson, Jenny Thomas. “The Foundation offers children across Australia invaluable support and all funds raised from the auction will help to continue this work. The items up for sale in this auction will give winners a once in a lifetime experience or unique piece of memorabilia, so we'd encourage people to start bidding so that they don't miss out!"
